I've heard the new Maxima is moving to a different class, and it will be a boat like the Toyota Avalon.

Same here. Moving the Maxima into a larger class, replacing it with the Altima.

The pics above are from a guy that actually saw this car on the street....

On His website Brian V. (the Photographer of the pics above) wrote this:

"I just happened to see this car on the road. It appears to be very similar to the Altima but looks a little larger in person. It was driven by four Japanese guys with Michigan MFR plates. It happened to be right by Nissan's Headquarters in Torrance, Ca. The minute they saw me get the camera out they slammed on their brakes and tried evasive measures to avoid me, at one point they slowed down from 80 to 30 MPH abrubtly."

Props to 2004TL from atl.com for the find.

Also read that the Maxima will be HEAVILY based on the Teana from Japan. If you look at the pics you'll see the similarities. Here's the website for the Teana: http://www.nissan.co.jp/TEANA/PROLOGUE/

ive always thought that the maxima would change "classes" because that new altima is fuckin huge!!! my uncle has one of the 2.5L new altimas and its easily bigger than my CL-S in every way..the old altima was like the size of a 4 door integra!!! so now the maxima is going to be like a friggin CROWN VIC!! hahaha

juniorbean, thanks for the pics.

I've wondered about the altima/maxima deal. With the altima coming w/ a 3.5L like the maxima, I wondered how nissan can justify having 2 cars that almost fit into the same class.

With the Max moving up in size, that explains things.

Have not seen any pics of the new Maxima other than the ones juniorbean posted. Actually these pics are pretty old and the car is way too much camuflaged. The pic in your post looks like the Maxima looks like the G35. And it does make sense. The other thing I know is that the new Max will be larger inside and out. We can safely guess that the 255HP V6 will remain the same or very similar.

It's not a maxima. The interior looks super fancy. alot of wood and funky seats, go to the www.vwvortex.com and there in the car lounge it was diicused and there are more pictures.

THat is the car the next maxima will be based on. The next Max will be based on the Altima platform.

I like the blue spy Max, but that grey test mule is quite odd! The blue spy Max looks like it shares some Infiniti genes with its huge lights and grill and I like it. On the other side, the grey test mule's styling is too way far out on a limb. Check out the split grill again... looks like it was ripped off straight off a Kia. Hopefully it's just heavily camo'd.

I see the new Maxima getting an even larger VQ V6 than the current 255hp version. Why? I say hp wars. The G35 will likely be upgraded to near 300hp in the next year or two and the Altima to 255hp ... leaves the Maxima safely in the 270hp range. Nissan historically hedges on the side of more motor and I don't see them changing now!

jimcol711 - Maximas are certainly NOT everywhere. They only seem that way because you and I both know they're such great values ... yes, I think you love Maximas deep down! Start counting the number of Accords, Camrys and Tarus (sp?) or check out annual sales figures.

man that new Maxima is nasty looking.I actually kind of like the looks of the current Altima. but if they turn the Maxima in to a crusing/luxary car that will be kind of sad (I know it's the CL's compitition) but you gotta give props to them for the years they've driven Acura/Honda to build a faster CL
