I think I've asked this elsewhere but haven't found an answer. Is there any warning that the belt needs replacement other than mileage recommendations? i.e., will a dashboard light go on? Will you hear a funny sound? Or is it just like a silent bomb that goes off unexpectedly?

I've got 132k on my 01 CL and would like to wait till beginning of December to replace but am nervous every time I drive.

A vehicle that OLD and that many miles is a silent bomb in the making.....also your climate condition plays a part here....HOT vs. Dry climate. Garage vs. left out doors.....

Okay, that's scary. I'm in Southern Cal, so climate is pretty temperate, low humidity. I garage the car but don't know about previous owners.

My mechanic says it will take a whole day so it's just hard to find the time to take off, and would rather it be on next month's credit card statement if I can.

So is there any warning sign? Another thread mentioned something about a code -- B4, I think?

Will it make a funny noise?

(Oh and btw -- my mechanic, who used to work for Acura, doesn't seem that concerned about it.)

no real warning signs that I know of. Just the sudden snap of the belt and loud bang of the pistons crashing into one another due to the off timing (just assuming thats what happens)...ouch....

Was hoping for a different answer but thanks.
Am going to bring it in on Monday. Won't be driving much before then.

It will be fine until December. Structure the maintenance to fit your needs and get it done at your earliest convenience.

That climate is pretty good, have him save the old belt so you can check it out, odds are it will look pretty good, that's why he's not sweating it.

At 132k for an 01, its time to get the belts changed. I had mine changed almost 2 years ago at 105k and the mechanic said that it would have been good for another 30k. Better safe then sorry, your going to have to change it eventually.

Anybody snap one?

I know what'll happen if it snaps. Has anybody actually had one go, and if so, what year how many miles.
