2003 Acura cl type s valet key
I recently bought an 03 cl from a used dealership and all they had was the valet key, does using the valet key affect perfomance in any way? It seems like my vtec doesn't kick in till 5100 rpm's.

valet key shouldn't effect performance to my knowledge, just doesn't allow for access to trunk, glove box, and rear center compartment. The only difference between the valet key and the regular key is the thickness.

I have a special key that I use when its nice out, and I feel like cruising. It gives me like +15 HP.
No but seriously Cashost... I would have clowned you a ton more if you wern't from KC (my home town). The answer is no the valet key does not affect engine performance.

Here's a picture of the Corevette Vallet Key:
http://www.zr1netregistry.com/firstking.htm
Ahead of the shifter is the "valet switch" or "power key". 1990, was the only year this was truly a switch. For '91 and later, it was a spring-loaded momentary switch and the system defaulted to "secondaries off" at the next engine start.
"As you sit with the engine warming, note the "power key" or "valet switch" which turns the port throttles and secondary injectors on and off. Perhaps more marketing curiosity than a practical feature, the power key was said to be protection from parking valets. You turn off the switch, disabling the secondaries, then remove the key...but who gives a ZR-1 to a valet?"
Since our keys are electronically coded, it's not a bad concept to have the ECU drop to limp mode when using the Vallet key
