So I thought it might would be cool to compare our cars to similar newer vehicles with 2doors and 4 seats and similar stats and mid sized.
in alphabetical order:
all are manual tranny:
1. Bmw 335i coupe 2008
- 3571lbs
- 300hp 300lbsft
- 13.4 @ 104mph 1/4 mile
2. Cheverolet camaro 2lt 2010
- 3741lbs
- 304hp 273lbft
- 14.2 @ 99mph 1/4 mile
3. Dodge challenger r/t 2010
- 4041lbs
- 372hp 404lbft
- 13.9 @ 103mph 1/4 mile

8. Mitsubishi eclipse gt 2008

9. Nissan altima 3.5se coupe 2008

10. Pontiac gto 2006

thats all i could think of right now. if you have more you would like to add, please do.
our cars seem to stack up well with a lot of these, but once they are modded, we would have a hell of a time keeping up with similar mods.

What exactly was the basis of choosing these cars? Simply 2 doors and 4 seats?
The reason Im asking is you went with V6 Camaro, which with that motor would be pretty even with the CL. But the SS is $31k, or slightly more then the 8th gen Accord 6-6 and would beat the CL pretty handily. Not to mention that the CL sold for $31k in 2003, which when you take into account inflation, is around $37k today.
And of course you could always get the new Mustang GT for less then $30k and run 12s.

the pros and cons vs. some of these too ya know.
i should have been a bit more detailed, but other than the bmw, these are all cars in the 30-40k new and 20-25k used and all around 3500-4000lbs and thats what i was heading towards..
obviously things like 350z and s2000 are not on here because of the practicality(only two seater) but actually mabe should have been on the list do to same 1/4 mile times and price?

I think one car that should definitely be added to the list is the BMW 135i. They run low to mid 13s stock and weigh slightly less then the CL. New is right at $40k. And like most of the RWD cars on that list, a few mods and they just completely run away from the CL.
The E46 M3 is another one. And they can had for less then $30k.

135i runs a 13.2 while the 335i and 2006 m3 run a 13.4, but the 135i is a smaller car(not mid-sized), but 4 seater yes.

looks like bolt ons will be having us beat #2-9, with a decent driver too of course, and a 3.5-3.7 swap with bolt-ons to keep up with the bmw 335i and m3 or the gto..
3.5 with bolt-ons, supercharger and damn good wheels and tires would have up beating the crap out of all of these and a lot of newer v8's too. but then again, we would probably need a new clutch and motor mounts to handle all that power as well...

Not trying to rain on your parade but clearly you are taking fanboyism to a whole new extreme which seem to be getting into the stages of ludicrous speed and possibly surpassing plaid speed.

No point comparing cl to any other car, the idiots on here will just say wrong wheel drive and tell you drag strip times. If all you care about is drag racing and turning as slow as possible them buy an American muscle car.
I can get better lap times in my wrong wheel drive car than any of the cars mentioned here.

For the post:
Straght line numbers are one thing but, cars like the smaller bmw's will out handle a cl stock for stock.
So I think that's where our cars should be compared to against others.
It really don't matter how fast you are in a straght line. If you can not get around the conners, you are actually slower.
What are all those cars pulling with the lat G's ?

this is just a thread on how our car stacks up against other newer MID-SIZED COUPES within similar price ranges.
every car on the list runs a 13.3-14.6 and weighs 3400-4000lbs and is a 4 seater...some are front drive and some are rear drive...
and i know for a fact that our cars modded would stack up real well against some of the best on the list.
of course it looks like the bmw is always the exception, but any other car on the list other than the GTO is attainable to catch in the corners and straightline

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Cl was pretty much a 2 door Tl and it's not like we would compare the Tl to a 4 door muscle car like a charger, the topic itself makes sense but wouldn't you say that some of the comments on here are a bit naive?

But, if you wanna talk about a tl-s to a charger r/t, why not..tl-s will outporform it in many ways..
keep it up guys

6 of those cars on that list would beat the cl on the track because they would have the optimum setup for racing, and I am not talking modded versus modded.
Stock for stock front wheel drive would have its disadvantages in a road course, and the new mustang is no joke on the track either it is somewhat quick, undersprung but decently quick.

But then when compared to the RWD listings w/ performance on a road course some would walk away and some would run away on any straight allowing for higher speeds. In terms of cornering grip and transitioning one would have to spend quite a bit of money on the CL to match most of the RWDs here given that they had a set of decent summer performance tires. And then consider the fade on the stock CL braking - even w/ pad upgrade -which would limit how deep you could take speed into a corner.
I'm not saying the CL can't be fun. I've had a renewed interest in my car's handling recently going from H-tech springs to H&R sport springs and switching to stickier/stiffer Nitto NT-05s. Much more balanced and I might even use the word 'tossable'. Still I don't think I'll be I'll be beating 335is or G37S if the other person is a decent driver.

an i agree with everything you just said^^^
but I only listed the 1/4 mile times for a reason, because that was the focal point compared to our cars. And the whole cornering and being wrong wheel drive got outta hand on a couple of the replies on here. I wasnt exactly trying to get that deep, but we ALL know our cars are not the best at handling and braking, but with the right mods can be contenders....
thanks 4 all the replies so far, and at least we are talking about our cars still in a real life situation against comparible cars, (NOT 2010 m3s' or vettes or whatever..lol), and maybe some will appreciate their ride a little bit more with comparisons like this thread

And I love how you immediately try to racially bash me thinking I'm this hood rat or whatever but its ok, ill be the better man.
I own a cl-s 6 speed, not an auto like yours, and I have owned it since 2005 where I paid 13.9 for it with 45k miles.
Its a great car I agree, but was it my first choice, hell no it was what I could afford. And im pretty sure my car is in much better shape than your car, but whatever if you want to post the same shit over and over be my guest, it's just getting a little redundant.
Got to love "93 caprice on 28's comment".

Kind of interesting to see that todays cars are still pretty heavy.
I think a more interesting concept for comparison would be gas mileage.

Rapture you said: "Kind of interesting to see that todays cars are still pretty heavy."
You would think that they would look at ways to make them lighter since that directly affects MPG. But on the other hand there seem to be more creature comforts in todays cars. So I guess its a trade off.

Yeah I understand that, but I aint a black dude from the boondocks, I graduated from high school, I served in the military (honorable discharge), I am a Veteran (Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom) watched some good friends not come back from convoy, and yet I have a dude telling me I should go get a damn 93 caprice with 28's, now if you were in my shoes now you can see why I was kinda pissed, yeah im black, but im not fuckin ghetto, I am that black guy that is always the only one with white people at a party function (aka token) not ghetto, that irked me the wrong way.
But yes compared to the cars today the CL technically is way outdated because isn't it based off of the 98-02 honda accord chassis?

No point comparing cl to any other car, the idiots on here will just say wrong wheel drive and tell you drag strip times. If all you care about is drag racing and turning as slow as possible them buy an American muscle car.
I can get better lap times in my wrong wheel drive car than any of the cars mentioned here.

If you truly believe RWD is only good for drag racing, you need to learn a bit more about chassis design and balance. There is a reason high performance cars are not FWD. Its limiting as for how much power you can efficiently put down and its not the best in corners. Sure, there are FWD cars that handle well, but for each one I can point out 4 RWD cars that handle better.
Most FWD have a 60/40 f/r balance. That a good track car does not make.
I think Parker took more shit when he started here then anyone I have ever seen in a forum. I had to give him respect for sticking it out and hanging with it.

As for the cars being heavy, aside from creature comfort most cars nowadays have much more safety items in them, not to mention computer upon computer for damn near every function of the car.
The video of the CL posted above is NSpecs. Its not stripped, just a 3.6l and a 6MT.
Darkie - Yes the CL is based off the now 13 year old Accord chassis.

See time is the biggest factor against the CL right here technically it is pretty obsolete by today's standards, now had their been a successor to the design then maybe it might be able to compete especially if it had the fandangled SH-AWD system then maybe I would make it a contender but RWD has so many advantages on the race track and the drag strip.

Some of the things RP does I personally would not do, but he doesnt give a shit what people say and for that hes got my respect.

Don't worry everyone, I know the CLS will still beat the Explorer around a track and in a 1/4 mile drag and is a all around better performance machine then the Ford Explorer.
Civic who is that handsome guy in your sig? He must pull more ass than a toilet seat!

We have been getting several new Ford Explorers and Charger interceptors at work. The interiors on the Fords have been really improved. The fit and finish is very nice! But I imagine that the nicer materials are heavier then the cheap plastics of teh past. I've been very very impressed with all the new Fords. Seem to have come a long way in the last 2 years.
