2003 Acura CL
2003 Acura CL
Hello all, long time no see.
Excuse me if this has been posted before, but it has been awile since I have read a post
I just wanted to post what I just heard from my contact at Honda.
The new 03 CLS is the fastest production Honda except for the NSX. They had to really lower the gears on the CLS cause it was ripping out motor mounts and peeling out in every gear. Horsepower is around 300hp.

Not saying that it is ... but if this is legit, perhaps this is the '05 model and this is why Kahn Man's buddy was asked to make a tranny capable of 290HP
The TL and CL will get another look from me in 32 months when my RSX-S lease is up for sure ...

Well...to back up Snook.
I've got a friend who has a buddy that works for Honda, and he has mentioned to me on several occassions that the CL/TL (possibly merger between the two lines??) are getting a serious re-design in a couple of years (2 or 3??).
If all of this lines up correctly, it appears that 05' may be the year for the redesign. Of course he wouldn't elaborate more on what he says (bastard!!
)
I love my 01' and I don't think there are many more mods that Snook can provide me with (I think i've got pretty much everything that i've wanted
)

Exactly
. The rumor mill is getting ridiculous. The car has been released with 260 hp. Case closed. And oh yeah, in case anyone has not heard, it will have 6 spd close ratio manual tranny.Buh Bye.
Shawn,
He was talking about the S4, the CL-S will have 450HP and be 6WD!
Seriously folks, can we kill this thread.
I went to the Chicago Auto Show on Sunday and saw an Aegean Blue 2003 CL-S on display.
Its exactly as has been described in the 100 previous posts. Minor cosmetic changes (which personally are not to my liking, especially the Rims which look like glossy cheap plastic and the plastic fill-ins for the missing Road Lamps!) are pretty much all you can expect. Somebody took the liberty of stealing the 6-speed shift knob and plate, so if you guys see any early photos of 2002 AT's that have been basterized into a 6-Speed, you know where the parts came from.
At the show they had an official release date of March 2002.
Lets move on to something new.

Just and FYI: Usually at car shows, everything that can be stolen will be taken out by the show people so that it does not get stolen. So thats prolly what happened in this case as well.

Hello?!? Hello?!?
Knock, knock is anybody there?
What didn't you all undersatnd from my earlier thread.
I was at the 2002 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW.
I went to the Acura display. There was an Aegean Blue 2003 Acura CL-S on display for all to play with!
I saw it.
I touched it.
I even fondled it (although I will deny that if anyone asks).
When I put my ear up against the engine it even whispered "260 Horses baby, take me for a ride!"
GET OVER IT!

I feel like the guy in that Mitsubishi radio commercial. The one where he calls the Moron who wants a mini-SUV and gets into a discussion of things that are small? The one about the 0% financing....
"Is Zero smaller than 1?"
YES!
"Is it smaller than my friend Bob"
YES, ZERO IS SMALLER THAN BOB!
You guys are funny!

"something wicked this way comes"???????????
IF it is indeed 300hp, then i will really have to consider dumping the '01 and getting the '03. I'm praying every night
There's the M3, AMG Merc's, the to be released S4 with around 300HP engine and early next year the S60R/V70R with 300HP/400NM/AWD.
Lexus promised a limited edition IS400/430 for Europe so who knows what their main US market might expect.
All these models are CL contenders so I wouldn't be surprised to see a souped up Type R with a lot of the current NSX technology.
Would be easy for Honda, hell they even could mount the S2000 drivetrain.

*They are advertising it at 260hp.
*The dealers have no information on a hp increase.

As for the information that I had a few months back that they were designing the clutch to 295hp, this still confuses me. The only thing I can say is that 295 was their peak hp that the clutch needed to handle.
As a side note:
I talked to McGrath Acura today. I trust the guy there because my family has bought 7 Acuras from him and he has no reason to lie or withhold information. He told me four things:
1. He has not heard anything about a hp increase, so he expects 260.
2. Expects pricing to be in the mid $32k range.
3. No delivery dates yet, just production dates.
4. McGrath has deposits on 8 so far which will sell for MSRP (TBD) plus destination, tax, title.
But, if the damn thing does turn out to be 295hp, remember where you heard it first.

I'm really confused by all this speculation. For ex., I've heard that the engine on the current-discont. honda prelude is actualy underated by 22-25 hp at the crank. Someone said that Honda prob did this for Insurance reasons, i.e keep insurance prem. lower. My dad's friend who's been driving sticks for over 20 yrs has an 00 prelude 5speed, ran a 15.0 or 15.1 in the 1/4 stock. He showed me the time slip but i don't remember his trap speed. Anyways, that would mean that his 0-60 was b/w 6.8-7.0. The best mag time I ever saw was 0-60 in 7.2 (C&D or MT).
I don't think the 03 6speed will have more than 260hp, but remember there is no torque convertor and it weighs 65lbs less. Also, due to the helical LSD it actually won't be as bad as peeps here think in terms of launching it. Once u live w/ a stick, u'll learn how 2 launch it good in a matter of time. N E ways, "secret"
hp is always welcome
side note--- Mustang Cobra R is advertised w/349 hp but it actually makes that much power at the wheels!!!(i'm not tryna imply that the 03 cl will make 260hp @ the wheels)

To clarify, I mean that Acura specs will say that the CLS will have 260 hp, they def. will not change that humber, also honda doesn't upgrade models hp during their current model gen run, only when they r introduced

And you know what? I don't give a flying fvck. I have 33 more lease payments on the CL, 36 on the TL, two classic Fords and a free Ford Taurus from work. I don't need no stinkin' manual!!
One more question ... if they had a 300HP CL-S 6MT why would it be in Acura's benefit to keep it a secret? I think I am just biased cause I won't look at the CL (again) until the '05 comes out
