Hey guys. Just a quick question. Is that boot on 6spdmanual's car a Momo performance? Thanks.

How long did it take? What tools are required? Can you use the stock boot?

No tools required. At least for the MOMO design.
If you’re changing the boot, you just pull up the trim plate and crank off the old knob counterclockwise with the boot still attached.
The new knob is attached with three setscrews.
A small wrench is supplied in the box.

You can use the stock boot if you want to save some money, but then you need an adapter ring for the shaft and I don’t think it looks as good.
If you use the MOMO boot, the new knob screws right onto the top of it.

The Momo boot is quite a bit longer... What do you do about the extra length? Trim it?

I would imagine you would. However, I'm no expert and I haven't done mine yet. I would say Shawn S is the guy to talk to.

Thanks for the help. I ended up trimming it to about 1/2" shorter than the stock boot. It might have been a little too much, but it still looks good. I'll take a picture as soon as I can get my hand on a digicam.

I don’t see why you had to CUT it.
The bottom is ELASTIC and all I did is stretch it around that white plastic piece and bunch the excess below the silver trim plate and it looks fine from above.

I prefer the “crinkle” look of the boot as opposed to the “tight” look that makes it look like an Indian teepee.

PS....Sorry I couldn’t get back to you earlier.

I just added the Momo boot to go with my Momo Combat...
Here's some pics!

Looks tight... But holy crap it was a bitch to get the boot on. Unfortunately the old boot, white plastic brace and trim were all just stapled together. I was actually quite surprised... So I still have some work to do... my silver trim and plastic brace are not completely secure and the trim is not completely flush. Leather is quite thick, especially if you don't trim it. I guess I'll staple the brace and trim together as was before unless somebody else has any suggestions... ??

I did not trim my boot... What I did was folded all the access up until I attached to boot to the white plastic brace, then I pulled the access leather down through the brace.

I think it looks quite nice though....

Cheers.

Concerning that white plastic ring around the bottom of the boot.
I pulled all those staples out of the stock boot and didn’t put them back in.

I wrote this in another thread when this question came up:

I ended up making four small 1/2” long slices in the boot just above the elastic band.
The cuts align with the “tabs” on the inner piece that the end of the boot wraps around.
These cuts allowed the boot to fit tighter and the trim piece to “seat” in there better.

(knock on wood) It’s been holding together since Sunday and nothing has come loose yet.

Shawn S

I also did a little layout this morning showing how lowering the knob reduces the throw required.

I see what you mean. Thanks. Has it been holding together? Would you recommend cutting the slices then? I was quite reluctant to cut the boot at all. But it could definitely sit better... Either way I think I'm going to staple it all back together for a little re-assurance.

Do you have pics of yours?

Thanks.

Like I said, it’s been OK since Sunday.
It was coming loose after 2 or 3 days the way I had it before.

Here’s a pic......

Thanks Shawn!
Fawkin sound. I did exactly what you said about cutting slices in the boot and it worked great! The trim still pulled up a bit so I put just a dab of super glue (i know, I know.. ) to hold it and it's flush and looks sweet.

Cheers.
