2002 3.2 CL -- 50 K miles, Test Drive today
Greetings:
Test rode a 50 Kmile frequent oil, retired owner, clean one today. It was gutless!
1) is this common? Please send me the link for mods and cost / benefit
2) Spongy brakes at panic stop with wheel juddering. Common? I suspect leaking brake pistons. Seen this?
3) What is the story on the tranny reliability on the auto? This was flushed but , Ive seen failures when the flush isn't absolutely continuous on other cars.
Anybody know the scoop on this model?
I walked as I didn't get a good feeling.
I'd appreciate info as it depends on whether or not I make an offer.
thanks

1. best mod is headers for about 100-150 for the cheap ones for 500 for the best. it will yield about a 20-30hp increase. most people feel the CL has good power. not sure what your driving background is or if something is wrong like the actuator.
2. brake rotors are warped causing the wheel to shake when the brakes are applied. very very common. spongy brakes can be fixed with either new brake pads and a brake fluid flush. if all fails, then you might consider replacing the master cylinder.
3. For the tranny issues, please read the FYI. Its extensively covered in there and it can be an issue in the CL.

The CL was the best in 2003...that was also its last production year.
If you can wait...look for a good '03 model...might save you extra money down the line when and if your transmission fails.
