2001 CL-S Resale

I just sold my 2001 CL-S with 33K for $20,000.. Now the only reason i am
starting a new thread is.. i remember seeing some messages earlier complaining
about trade in value etc... I had my car up for sale for just a week now and not
only did i sell it for the above price, i've got a list of buyers wanting to buy the
car and willng to pay full price... the latest offer just came in from the UK...

I put it up on Auto Trader....There appears to be a market for this car..

Agreed. Every time I see one of those posts, it usually refers to someone trying to trade in their car.......and they are suprised they are offered so little for the car......How shocking that a dealer would actually low-ball someone.

Only way to go is sell it outright.

The call from the UK is more than likely a scam. They ususally are purchasing the car for a "client who owes them money". They will send you a bank check for more than the amount and want you to send them back the remainder. The check will clear but in about 10 days it will come up as fraud and bounce. Most of the time after you have sent them the money.

They also run this scam from nigeria.

Ive been seeing the scam more and more lately.

Those checks are often fake Cashiers checks, so banks have to honor them right away due to Reg CC. Bad news is, it usually takes longer than 10 days to find out they're bad.

Happened to a client where I worked. Cashed the check, sent them the difference of $6K and the check came back bad. He got stuck with owing us the difference AND the remaining loan on the car. Common Sense should have prevailed though...the check was off Wachovia in VA and the guy had us wire money to somewhere in Texas...Unreal.

UK Scam

Now i know what you are talking about.. just scanning the auto trader for an IS300
(no, just surfing, i'll get another CL before an IS) but, found a real clean, and
yes, unbelievable looking IS for $6K.. just for fun sent off an E-mail and sure
enough, got this long and lengthy procedure for wiring money, balances, how
to avoid taxes... all canned and, even though i was searching here in So Cal,
the car is in England...

Zootking, maybe it's just location.. on auto trader, i did the 9 photos gig.. did
you do the same?.. As mentioned, my car was frickin clean and i mean just
about perfect..Now the guy that bought mine represented someone in Japan and
that's where my CL is headed. This guy told me there is interest over there for
the CL (since they don't get our model) and he'll pay top $$ but the car has to
be in top shape.... like mine was..If you think your car is in awesome shape..
this guy told me he' be interested....

I've always been lucky with Autotrader, selling normally to the first caller. But, ultimately, you have to have a good description & quality pics or you're wasting your time.

Bucks n buck roger

Zoot...ok, you've got a nice 03..
I inherted the car with about 31K on it... i only put around 2K on it...
I was only driving it roughly 16 miles a day...roughly 100 a week.. just
up and back to work.. on weekends, it was my family in the 4 door...
The guy before hung around locally also... so, that's where the miles came in...

Zoot, i am gonna send your link to this guy that deals a lot with the Japanese...
let's see what happens....

Not saying that there are still steals out there, but that isn't the average price.

Some people HAVE to selll their cars cheap because of any number of reasons. Just gotta be that lucky dude that sees it first & hope you aren't getting a shiny LEMON.

Traffic

middle aged women??? C'mon... in Socal??? C'mon...
down here in the Iron curtin, i've only seen 1 female driving a CL...nothing wrong
with it mind you but...just 1...
Have you gotten calls or inqs for your car? Sounds like an attractive price....
$55 might sound high but.. i noticed that when surfing for cars, that 9 picture
gig pulls in the traffic vs that 1 lousy shot for the cheaper price...

We'll see what the market is like in Atlanta. I certainly hope it is better than in the Charlotte region.

Hey Zootking, do you think the mileage is hurting your sale at all?? 44k miles on what would be considered a two year old car is above the national average.

Wow, a 2001 with 51k miles for nearly $19k. That makes my 2003 6MT with 23k miles for $22k an excellent deal.

Seems as though resale is "creeping up". Now NADA and KBB put private party value on our 2001 between $18,200 and $18,800. Of course, we'll have to knock off $5,000 for Sundance Gold, ha ha ha ha.

Gold!

I've only seen a handful of that gold and, while i wouldn't say it's a great color
for the car.. it does make you look..
The private party to private party price for my 2001 with 33K was $20,200.. and
i got pile of takers at $20K.. Must be the mileage thing..

Pooky.......color looks a lot better without the original factory wheels IMHO. Nervous when I first bought it--couldn't decide if I loved the color or was frightened by it!!! Good news is the paint is holding up better than average. Will find out about the tranny condition after inspection today.
