2001 3.2 CL without HID's
Hi.. I have a question regarding my girlfriend's 01 3.2 CL.. she purchased one last July for like 20k.. with 12k miles on it.. at that time I had only been goin out with her for a month.. and she didn't take me along with her to buy the car.. well apparently her car does not have HID's.. it looks as though either the dealership(which is a used car lot, not an Acura dealer) removed the HIDs, or the previous owner removed them before selling the car.. so she has normal low/high beam lamps which aren't even plugged in the back.. she tried to go back to the used car dealership and complain, which went nowhere.. and she recently had to have an oil jet kit installed by Acura because of a recall, and they said there was nothing they could do.. anyone know what options she has? buy a new HID assembly for like $1200? get a conversion kit? use HID-like replacement bulbs? any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated..

Wow, that sucks....Its not the greatest solution, but the bulbs they have today can be just as bright as real HIDs ( almost anyway)....Screw paying thousands to get real HIDs installed ( at this point anyway)......Just go on ebay and look up the bulb types and "SuperBright"

That's ridiculous, I would contact a lawyer. Lights are part of the safety requirement of a vehicle.
Putting any bulb into an HID-made housing is not a good idea either, as the precise focal point of a D2R bulb is required to throw light where it belongs. The focal point of a halogen bulb is different. Not only that, the plug wouldn't fit! You'd have to retro a new plug and make sure that the voltage system can power your bulb (55w v. 35w HID).
Did they remove the entire HID unit? Ballast, wiring, etc.? If they did, the whole unit was removed, meaning the bumber was removed, and more than likely, the level adjustment was screwed up. I would check for damage or shadiness under the skin.

That sucks. See if the place you got it from said that the car had HID's in the ad. I would definately talk to a lawyer. Also, not to bring up a sour point, but a 2001 CL with that low miles.
General Question: Does anyone know if there is a way to verify that?

Thank you all for your quick replies. My girlfriend has taken action with the DMV and after some paperwork and some pictures it is going under investigation. A friend who is a paralegal is going to draw up the paperwork and make sure we go about everything in the right manner. Also, we have to have an estimate done by her mechanic that she uses for replacement and installation. The only thing that is botherin my girl is that she is worried that the Used car dealership is going to call her up and harrass her.

Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see. Thank you all again.

im curios what type of halogen bumb they got in there. only a h7 has the same focal point of a d2s/d2r. also they would have to hack up the wiring. pics would be great.
that is b/s though. i hope everything works out for you. if you get screwed let me know. i can get you some d2r bulbs and ballasts for $200.

Thanks to Everyone
Thank you to everyone who offered their help to my girlfriend and I. Today we had the HID's replaced at Acura, at no cost to us. Without the information and support of those who replied to our original message, my girlfriend probably would have just let it go or paid out of her own pocket. So once again, thank you very very much.

Yeah, 2 months later.. that's how long it took for her to get all the info she needed from the DMV.. get documented information from her mechanic stating that he believed that the HID's were removed.. write a letter to both the DMV and the dealership explaining the whole situation.. get an estimate from Acura on how much it would cost to replace the lights.. then she was playing phone tag with the dealership.. she works 2 jobs and goes to school, and takes care of her parents.. so she doesn't have a lot of time.. anyways.. after talking to the dealership a few times and going over all the information, which took like 3 weeks because they were dragging their feet, they finally decided last week to set up an appointment to have it done.. so it was all taken care of today.. they had the car from 9am until 4:30pm.. they said it was like $1250 for the complete system plus whatever the labor was.. but the dealership paid for everything.. no cost to my GF whatsoever.. so at least it worked out.. just took forever.. now if only I could get Nissan to fix my stupid Bose system in my Maxima.. but that's for another forum..
Thanks again,
Jay

I dunno, I'm sure your girlfriend's claim is legit, but what's to prevent someone from pulling out the HIDs/ballasts/ignitors and going back to the dealer and saying they were never there?
Extremely nice of the dealer to fix the problem for you.
