2001 -2002 Differences and any other info..

Can anybody tell me the differences between the 2001 and 2002 CL Type S? I am looking at buying one of these two years and am hoping for any information you people might be able to give. I have had horrible luck with my last 2 cars and am very hesitant about buying the next one even tho I know Acura is a solid car. Any advice......

If you've had horrible luck with your last 2 cars, I would suggest buying an '03 CL over an '01 or '02. Try to get the 6 speed manual tranny.

01-02 - Only thing different were the outside mirrors

03 had different rims, headlights, taillights, no road lamps, on-star with navi, different navi antenna, & different exhaust tips.

I don't want to scare you away from the CL-S because it is a great car for the money. However, you may want to consider visiting the Transmission Section of the forum for information about the most common problem with the car.

I wasn't an "extreme" driver either..they are failing regardless of how they are treated. The warranty is good, but there's lots of members here who have had 2, 3, even 4 trannies replaced.

fuzzy, what was different with the Onstar, Navi, and antenna for the 03 CL? I thought it was the same for all years, CL and TL. Is there an alternative antenna option. I don't like the little rubber dickie thing on my 03 CL.

Then the CLS is perfect for you.

But really its agood car, i would buy a used one even with the tranny issues. Has 100k warrenty so if you dont mind the dealer sometimes then go for it.. Everything else about the car is soild.

Plus used ones are a great value.

What should I expect to pay for this car:

2002 - 38K

2001 - 60K with navi....

Anything i should look for when buying this...I know this is a general question...but just stressing about this since my poor luck in the past.

dealer or private party?

2002 - dealer - 20000. private party - 18000
2001 - dealer - 17500. private party - 16000

mind you this is in excellent condition. these are really fair prices, but you shouldnt pay any more than this.

and i assume you mean the type s.

Onstar wasn't available on the 01 & 02 CLS with Navi. The navi antenna was on the rear deck on the 01 & 02 compared to on the top of the back window (rubber dickie thing) as it is on the 03.

What if you have to switch between normal and snow tires? How much do those cost? How much to install?
