2 stang GT's *not a race*

It was on the ride home today from work. Not a race so you can stop reading but was interesting. It started at the on ramp going to 476N from lancaster ave/route 30. Two stangs GT's both covertables. One had a plastic looking roll bar? ONe looked new than the other. Anyway, one speeds up and so i drop into third and blow past both of them coming off of the ramp. Both increasd their speed and followed but neither wanted a piece. One turned towards 76 east to Philly and the other followed. He kept changing lanes and trying to follow but never caught up. Traffic wasn't that bad I couldn't have done more than 80. One was Oh well, I would probably be scared to play on a highway with a covertible. I can't buy a race sometimes

yeah, I don't know that those mustang roll hoops actually do anything to improve occupant protection - they never seem to have any front-to-back or diagonal bracing on them. it seems to me that most roll over accidents occur while the car is moving, so the bracing is essential to keep the bar in place (especially if it just bolted in place).

of course, the mercedes pop-up roll hoop is hinged in place and it apparently helps, so who knows?

I think this might be what he is talking about. It a Saleen Light Bar. No structural/protective purpose...solely a styling piece.

As with most styling pieces, some like it, some don't. I don't.

Wait a second - don't the new GT and Cobra convertibles have a roll bar-type thing? Or is that just an option? I thought I had only seen it on the SVT convertables, but then I saw one on a GT convertable the other day... looks pretty cool, but it didn't seem like more than a lateral stiffener, if it is even THAT purposeful.

No, the Cobras and GTs do not come with any light bar or roll bar. They are strictly aftermarket pieces.
