2.2 vs IS

On my way home from a friends house i stopped at a stop light, then a white IS pulls up next to me and wants to race. The IS was an auto, and stock. The light turns green. We are neck and neck to 50, i shift into 3rd. And i started to pull away.

I always thought the IS's were faster than that. Ugly and slow why would any one ever buy one.

If it's true, nice kill. A couple of my friends have the same exact cars and have flagged. The is300 tore though him. Much love though if it was reversed..

Main reason people buy IS 300s is because of the mods. The stock engine can hold 500 hp with no problems, even 600 hp. Also able to swap a 2jz-gte engine into the bay. The only chance you had winning, mr. 2.2 CL, is because of your mods, if @ all.

Isn't a "stock" engine with 500hp no longer considered stock? Seems to me like you have to do alot of work to a 215hp engine to get it to make 500hp.

Seattle - CL:

CLUofI asked "why would anyone ever buy one" My response was that the is300 engine's capacity and modifiyability is great. That is why.

to get to around 500RWHP, the only internal engine modification you'll need is a headgasket to lower the compression ratio. hope that helped.

also, i fucked an is300 up on the freeway with 3 other people in my 2.3. i thought it was just cause he had a governor for top speed but maybe not. We were dead even from 100-125 then i pulled 2 cars on him. guess they are slow!

I dont realy remember how much the pulleys were, i think around 90. They helped a little, but it wouldnt make much of a difference in a race.

i have beat a vtec del sol, h23 prelude thats all i remeber right now

You, sir, are a complete fucking moron. Any racing should be reserved for the track. It's dumbfucks like you that kill innocent people every day. The fact that you had three other people in your car only compounds the fact that your level of intelligence is probably on par with the average resident of a group home.

I think the IS is slow comments are so funny. It may be slower to a type-s, but its faster than most cars/trucks on the road.

A 2.2 Cl has 145hp I think, so what mods added 100hp? A stock IS has 215hp. Please explain, thanks.

actually, I believe that the reason that a CL may have a chance is because many IS300's are automatics. Now they are making maunuals so it will be harder foir this to happen.

But keep in mind that he does have mods done to his car. I am assuming the he has a 5spd. I think that there is a good chance that he beat the IS, remember he did say they were dead even untilabout 50mph.

Hmmm...
215 at the crank stock
500 at the WHEELS with only a thinner head gasket?

I call BS!!

You sir, have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
It's idiots like you that make this whole car scene so tiresome and trite. You probably don't even know what a head gasket looks like...

Oh, I see. I guess you forgot to mention the other EXTERNAL mods? Sneaky.

Well, then I guess there's no way to argue with that sort of logic. The CL can make 500WHP too... with only a "type S" badge added to the rear trunk...
I just won't waste my time mentioning all the other stuff so that I can make myself feel good when you challenge me.

I think most people would at least mention that they were referring to a major turbo job, not offhandedly mention one little item.

No hard feelings though, I want you to feel good about yourself.

wtf are you talking about? I exactly said the only internal engine modification you'll need is a headgasket to lower the compression ratio never once did you hear me state head gasket is all you need to get 500RWHP.

jeeezzz this is fucking rediculous. If you would for once open your eyes and look at the "external" modifications, those are components that a turbosystem would need, not just on an IS300. Oh, lets see, im sorry I didn't mention that you need a TURBOcharger to get 500RWHP. You are missing the main point.

If you think your CL can make 500whp, then I think it's time to bring yourself to http://www.is300.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13326543 Topic title says it all i invite all of you honda homos (acura) to come here and ...

Just remember, whenever you see a civic, neon, or protege with the riced out clear lights, to thank the Altezza/IS300. Thanks a lot for setting the trend.

Maybe the IS can handle some serious boost, but what percentage of IS owners are spending $12k on this turbo kit and who knows how much on labor. A real sports sedan should be a serious contender with just bolt-ons, and the IS can't do that.

I "opened" my eyes in your LATER post where you detailed out the turbo components. But your initial vague post is what i called BS on.

Settle down man. It's an internet messageboard.

I'm not gonna post anymore on this thread because this whole "did not, did to" thing is tiresome.

Peace.

Twin turbo, or a single fatty turbo and you're done. No work to the engine (larger fuel injectors, larger fuel pump... maybe some other stuff...) But basically stock engine.

ok wait...so $30k + $12k = $42k for turbo not including labor right? you really want to pay that much for a modded car? if you are a real good mechanic, or even if you hired someone, couldnt you build a cheaper and faster car? what about a crx with some fabrication work and an engine swap? crx is probably real cheap by now, so say, $25k worth of parts and labor plus $5k (on the outside) for the frame, and you can have a car that rules all. OR, get a cobra kit, or do a host of other things...

im not trying to flame, but if you are going to have a sports car with a completly voided warranty, why not go all the way?

<sigh...>

Sure, why not just buy an old Fastback Mustang with the 302... pay something like 1500 for the body, and buy a stroker engine for it (410 or something). Throw on a charger, some skinnies, LCA, UPR, 8.8" rear end, huge radiator, etc etc and you'll be deep in the 9's for less than 20. (assuming you do your own work)

I think the point is, they wanted the IS300 in the first place. Some people don't care how much it costs to modify their car... (talk to TypeR with his 3.5L conversion! )
