15K service

I'm taking in my car next week for the 15K service and since I'm not rolling around in piles of cash, I was wondering what I could cut out from the following:

1. Replace engine oil and filter
2. Inspect front and rear brakes
3. Rotate tires
4. Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots
5. Inspect suspension components
6. Inspect driveshaft boots
7. Check parking brake adjustment
8. Lubricate all hinges, locks and latches with multipurpose grease
9. Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS)
10. Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids, and check for leaks
11. Inspect cooling system hoses and connections
12. Inspect exhaust system
13. Inspect fuel lines and connections
14. Check all lights
15. Inspect the underbody

Thanks in advance!

It depends on the cost. If it is much more than what you can get a standard oil change and tire rotation for, I'd go elsewhere.

sounds to me like you bought the wrong car.. im not trying to be a prick ... but if you cant afford to properly maintain the car, well, you know the rest..

spend your money on the maintenance now or spend a lot more later fixing what could be prevented now.

i think most would agree.

you get what you pay for.

I'd opt for doing it myself or finding a local garage I can trust to do it for well under $45.00.. Check with Acura again at 30,000 for the maintenance then, as they actually do something at that interval..

$135 is a pretty average price for 15K service.

As someone who does oil changes and tire rotation myself (ie: the basics), I'd still take it in for the major interval checks every 15K miles and have the dealer take care of it. A couple hundred $ every other year to the dealer may help prevent a bigger headache down the road even if most of the money is going to 'inspections'.

I paid about the same for a 7500 mile check and have decided that I'll take it in at 15K, 30K, 60K... I'll do the intervening oil changes and rotations myself.

If you look at the Helm manual, the suggested inspection is pretty detailed. It's more then just glancing at a hose or tube and looking for a leak.

YMMV.

I used to think that our service rates were expensive, but all dealer service rates are equally pricey. The maintanence costs for my wife's Saturn have been essentially the same as my Acuras or my parent's Toyotas/Lexus.

Umm, all I see in an 15K "service" is an oil change, & tire rotation? All the other stuff is inspection stuff, ie look at, & seems ok. Stuff you can do yourself, & most of that should be included in a full service oil change from any local shop anyway. I could see having the dealers "service" after 30K miles, but not at 15K.

I'd have to say that "you get what you pay for" is the fourth biggest lie, everybody know what the three biggest lies are. Because something cost alot, does not mean it is better or has more value. It simply means the person/company thinks they can get that much for there product.

I am an aircraft mech. and i take my car in for all the services. My feeling is you really need to know what your looking at, and mech. at acrua dealerships should know what they are looking at. As for cutting costs, look for a local mech. to do it for you...should be cheaper than the dealership. One nice thing is, if anything ever goes wrong with the car Acrua is at fault, its only been maintained by them.
