Man Puts 1 Million Miles On Accord In 10 Years
Car Was Free Because Of Longevity Of Previous Model

POSTED: 10:54 a.m. EST November 18, 2002

MARYSVILLE, Ohio -- Gordon Bearrs of Ottawa, Kan., figures he's spent $70,000 in gasoline, maintenance and repairs on his Honda Accord.

But he says it was still cheaper than buying a new one. He's got 1 million miles on the car -- and counting.

Bearss and his Accord were guests of honor Sunday at the 20th anniversary of a Honda assembly plant in Marysville. He was also at the plant a decade ago for the 10th anniversary and was given the car for free -- as a reward for putting 615,000 miles on his previous Accord.

The 48-year-old Kansan drives up to 750 miles a day for his job as a document courier.
Geeze a million miles and all he gets is an Accord? I hope it was one of the new ones with the NAVI. How many miles for an NSX???

750 miles a day???

ok, if he drives 750 miles a day for 5 day work-weeks, that's 195,750 miles for 1 year...if he drives 750 miles a day at 60MPH average, that's 12.5 hours a day driving...im sorry, but i find this EXTREMELY hard to believe...it may b legit, but it's soooooo far fetched, i have doubts

If he's a courier not only is it possible, it's quite likely.

i find 750miles per day hard to believe as well. it takes 4hours to drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and thats about 270miles and thats all highway speed. he would need to driving i'd say at least 13hours a day not including stopping to make his deliveries.

Why did everyone miss the "up to 750 miles a day"? They meant he went as far as 750 miles a day, not 750miles/day average. Who knows how many times he hit 750miles/day during that 10yrs, maybe 1, 2 or 3 times at most. It's like the dealers say "interested rate as low as 0%", who knows how many ppl are really qualified for 0% APR!

1920 Working hours in a year (Generally accepted work year)
19200 Working hour is 10 years
1MM/19200 = 52 Average MPH over 10 years

OR

Lets say he takes no vacation, no sick days

2080 Working hours in a year (Generally accepted business hours in a year)
20800 Working hours in 10 years
1MM/20800 = 48 Average MPH over 10 years

OR

Lets say he works every day for 10 years for 8 hours/day

365 * 8 = 2920
29200 Hours in 10 years
1MM/2920 = 34 Average MPH over 10 years

I suppose that he could be a long distance carrier but the carriers I know of are short distance with a lot of stops, starts and city driving. I would think it would be hard to average the speed necessary to reach that kind of distance.

I am not saying that he didn't go a LONG way, I just question the 1MM mark. It doesn't seem sane.
