04 Tranny Replacment?
Do the 04 and up tl's have the same tranny problems? If not, what are the differences in the design? Could this transmission replace the 01-03 tranny? Or is it incompatable with the ECU or anything else?

there have been no noted failures of the latest revision to the 01-03 tranny released February 2005. granted it's early but we haven't seen any of the same rate of failures since people would drive off the dealer lot with new trannies and have them crap out a mile down the road.
there's also the dr. evil option, which i'm keeping my fingers crossed on because it may be a viable option for future one time only replacements.

what i was getting at though is that it may prove to be an option for people who are outside the 100k warranty and do not wish to pay the dealer for a new tranny. time will tell....

when i called dr. evil, i was quoted $2400 for a full rebuild including diff. rebuild and torque converter minus $250 shipping. i however have not heard anything about how much milage people with this transmission are putting on their cars. i put around 800-1000 miles per week on my car. i don't want to drop a huge pile of loot in this tranny if it has the same problems as the shitty acura rebuilds.

Naw I for one believe in the Dr. Evil tranny and for 2500 for a tranny thats going to last better then our original stock tranny and you know like SatinSilverTypS said its a option for anyone outside the 100k mark. I know there are a few AZ members here thats going to keep their car until it dies. I for one is one of them orrrrr unless I rack up some money to get a new M3 hahaha but AV6 has the Dr. Evil and is pushing a hella lot of power and his tranny is holding very well.

o1s - it isn't a cheap option, although you'll pay as much or more for an acura rebuild. now if the 2/05 revision proves to work then the acura rebuild should be worth it, but like we said, it's a little early to tell. the initial signs are promising though. the other side of the coin though is that no aamco or transtek or whoever rebuild will last either since they use the same parts.
it's an unfortunate situation but the reality is just that we have to wait and hope there is a long term fix that will emerge fruitful. the real fix might be to transplant a 3rd gen engine and tranny into a 2nd gen body. who knows.
