03 CLS rear sway bar end link broken ... is it common?

03 CLS - Rountine inspection found rear sway bar end link (L) broken. Is it a common problem? No accident involved. Dealer quoted $250 for replacing both sides coz links come in pairs...

Thanks!

Earlier end links were known to break. Acura improved them and then began selling them in pairs. Since then, Moog Components started making them in a beefier version. Here are the part numbers:

Moog
K90340 Front Right
K90341 Front Left
K90342 Rear Right
K90343 Rear Left

Napa has them for $21.49 a piece and I would replace them both so they match.

^Agree, I got the same ones from Rockauto.com when I replaced my RSB...they are way better quality than OEM plus have greasable fittings.

OEM endlinks are crap compared to MOOGS. Go get them, you won't be disappointed. I replaced them when i installed my RSB. Beefy and better design. no stupid hex key needed and greaseable as well.

ironballs...I do actually like the allen key to help hold the threads. Anyway, you say they're greaseable? Hrrm....I've always hated greaseable chassis points but since my Energy Suspension RSB mounts are greaseable..might as well?

My car's an '02 TL Type S. Are my end links susceptable to this breakage or are mine the improved ones?

another vote for moog end links...

the allen key design that honda used may work ok, but once it rusts, its the worst design in the world.

Werd. You don't want to know the hell I went through to get those bastards off. But I ended up with OEM end links.

How do you hold the Moogs in place when tightening?

Yup once they rust the hex bolt just strips and spins and spins forever. Had to cut mine off the stock bar, and used vice grips to get the other side off. Went with the moogs after, haven't thought of it since.

@ MestizoRacer310. If you're using OEM endlinks with aftermarket RSB then I'd say it is susceptible to breakage. That said you might not ever have a problem either. The reason why I went with moog was because the like others have mentioned, once the Allen key rusts it is absolutely impossible to remove without cutting and I had to when I installed mine so I upgraded.

@civicdrivr. the moog endlinks have conventional hex bases so you can use two wrenches to tighten it up. Much better design. Much like new oil filters that use this principle too. Here's a picture so you can see what I'm talking about. Look at the base of the bolt. Hope this helps.

Is the price $185 for all 4 or is that for a pair?

can this be the cause of all the squeecking and noise I am getting from the bottom of my car? I was going to replave my links when I replaced my sway bar mounts ( I thought all the noise was comming from the mounts the rubber was corroded thus making it move it was not secure) But I still have alot of noise!
I think its the shocks and am going to replace them when uncle sam gives me my loot but can this be a cheaper alternative to the noise??

A pair for the rear.

Links maybe clunk bit not really squeak. That might be a bushing/lube issue. Do you have a stock sway bar?

Yes I do have a stock sway bar, The noise is a CLUNK noise now the squeeking was the rubber mount that held up sway bar now the squeeking is gone but clunking is bad. I think its the shocks or maybee the sway bar link.

Those sway bar links are expensive but they are badass!!

How do I loosen/tighten the nut on the stock end link? It seems there's nothing on the other side, no female hex key input so when I tighten/loosen the nut, the bolt is spinning with the nut.

Use thin vise grips on the circular metal piece beside the rubber, to hold the bolt in place, while turning the nut.
