03 CLS Engine Running Poorly, At the shop now
The CEL on my 03CLS started flashing yesterday during my morning commute. The engine immediately started running poorly; strong vibrations and a big loss of power. It felt like one of the cylinders was not producing any power.
So I'm thinking it could be a bad plug, a bad coil pack, or a bad injector.
My local Acura dealership didn't have any openings for seven days so I dropped it off at the local Honda dealership last night

They've looked at my car and based on the number of trouble codes found they are suspect of the gas in my tank. This seems feasible because I did fill my tank the night before the symptoms occurred.
If I have a tank of bad gasoline they said it'l cost over $800 to clean out all the lines, flush all the valves and gas tank.
I drove about 30 miles since my last fill-up. How could I go that distance if the gas in my tank was bad?

They have a sample of the gasoline from my car they want me to come down and take a look at - apparently it looks contaminated with diesel. This is very odd because my gas station doesn't even sell diesel.
It's a 6-7 hour job to do whatever they need to do to get that crap out of my car. They don't have enough time to finish today so they'll be keeping it through the weekend and putting it back together on Monday

That just makes no sense. Even if it was some bad gas or even diesel, you can drain the tank & run some fresh gas.
I would not let them do anything until you can confirm what they say.

"Diesel in the tank" can mean a couple different things depending on exactly what happened.
If it is a little diesel in the tank, you may get away with a drain and refill of the tank, especially if the car had not been driven and the diesel did not get into the lines/.filter or had a chance to foul the plugs/injectors. If you had a whole tank (or any significant amount) of diesel and drove on it to give the diesel a chance to circulate as well as then stall the engine, you may indeed need the entire fuel system flushed.
Simply draining and refilling will not work in this case as the diesel in the fuel lines/filters will remain. (If you pull apart a gasoline fuel filter which had diesel accidentally run through it, you will see some residue. Running more gas through it will not totally clean it out.)
Good luck.

If you were running diesel you should have been able to tel by the exhaust coming out of the tailpipes (color, smell etc) as if the car was running rich.
Drain everything and if you want a new filter, that would be the fuel pump housing the has a built in filter it runs like $45-$50. I have a DIY cut up thread somewhere here just search for it.
Then get a can of seafoam and put some in the gas and the rest in the intake to decarbonize whatever might be left over.
As for the codes let me guess PO300, PO301, PO302, PO303, PO304, PO305, PO306
PO300 is a general misfire code the rest refer to each individual cylinder.

They cleaned out my fuel system and claim my car ran "better", but it threw code P0306 during the test drive. They replaced the bad coil pack and now it runs fine.
The mechanic claimed that the bad gas fouled the spark plug which in turn caused the coil pack to fail.
I think the bad gas diagnosis was incorrect they're trying to get me to pay for the unnecessary work they performed.

I verified with another dealership that a fouled plug can be the cause of a coil pack to failure.
I also contacted the gas station and found out that they haven't received any recent complaints about bad gas messing up peoples cars.

Picked up my car this afternoon... I was raped in the amount of $971 to diagnose and repair a bad coil.
I saw the sample of gas taken from my car - it looked completely fine to me. I almost asked them to grab a funnel and pour it back into my tank.
When I brought my car in it had stored trouble codes P301, P302, P303, P304, P305, P306, P300 and P1399. After clearing the codes and performing all the unnessary work to clean out the fuel system my car threw a code P306 during the test drive. They swapped out the bad coil and then everything was fine.
They claim that one bad coil cannot cause that many trouble codes by itself. Is that true?

True a single bad coil will cause tha particular cylnder to misfire giving any of the PO30X codes.
Whats the resistance on the coil pack? They tend to go out at 1900ohms and especially after 2000. New they're about ~1750-1800ohms.
Im suprised they didnt say it was vapor lock

My car has these exact same symptoms. Started very suddently about 3 weeks ago when I started it in the morning. Very rough idling and the car shudders at certain speeds on the highway. More I drove the rougher it got, you could smell gas fumes coming out of the exhaust; I think every light on the dashboard was flashing at me.. Took it in and they replaced all the spark plugs and all the ignition coils.
When I got it back, it drove GREAT!! However, after about 30 miles of driving, I started to feel the shuddering come back gradually. Over the past week it is now back to the same state it was before it was worked on. HELP!!!! It is throwing error codes P0301, P0302, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0300, and P1399.
My next assumption would be that the fuel injectors are bad, but that wouldn't explain why it ran perfectly after having the ignition coils replaced, only to degrade in performance again slowly. Is there something else that I'm missing that could explain all of this?

I was gonna say coil pack, same thing happen to me.. Bad vibrations and car would not go over 50MPH..
I bought 3 coils for $50 on ebay, replaced one and DONE..
So I payed $50 and still had 2 leftover coilpacks..
When i called the deler , they said bent valves.. BLAH BLAH BLAH...
