03 Cl-S vs 03.5 G35 Race

Ok, met my friend yesterday in boca. We didnt have much time to race, we did one true run from a stop, on a side street. Anyway he is the variables, for people who like to get real specific. Me-(03 Cl-S Auto, Stock, had the AC on by accident 1/4 tank of gas, 5500 miles). 03.5 G35 Auto with Aerokit or sport suspension package, whatever it is (2 gallons of gas, 1350 miles, Ac off). We both had traction control off. Both in D5 with no torque braking. I owned him off the line to 20, and he started catching up. Bottom line from 0-70 me and the G35 were exactly and I mean exactly even. Is this what you would expect?

yea but it aint gonna make a huge difference, practice your gate shifting. redline the gear to make it switch at 7100-7200, that helps alot man. turn off every thing, vsa, a/c, radio, heated seats, what ever man.

try it out again and be safe and let us know how it goes. try to take it to the track man.

At least try using the sport shift. I don't like gate shifting, really. You do gain control over the 1->2 shift, but with your foot in it in SS the car doesn't shift until redline anyways.

I think you should have killed him. Magazine racing agrees. I think I read the G35 auto sedan was a high 15 sec car. The stick is a different story.

Turn off that A/C!!!!!!

the compressor shuts off at WOT so you're not running the AC anyway just blowing air.

Yep, my mistake. C&D got a 14.9, but I still remember reading something about 15s. Oh well. I can still take them.

That might have been C/D also; on two seperate occasions they got upper 15s AND mid 14s on the G35 sedan with the exact same package.

The test in which they got that upper 15 second ET was a comparison test (aka the bad gas test) where it seems that ALL the cars ran MUCH slower than should be expected (i.e.: the Acura TL-S in that same test posted a 16-flat ET.)

Peace.

Performance:
0 - 30 (sec): 2.3
0 - 45 (sec): 4.0
0 - 60 (sec): 6.1
0 - 75 (sec): 9.1
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 14.7 @ 95.1

Turning off your AC will not help you out any. Just because you ran .02 seconds slower doesnt mean that it was the air, maybe you launced differnent, .02 sec isn't a lot.

two tenths of a second is not .02, it is .2 which is a lot slower.

C&D actually received many pieces of "hate" mail for that article (w/ the ridiculously slower times for all the cars .. 'specially the 'S) .. their return comment was that the gas station they used at the testing track might have been using regular unleaded... and that it was almost a sure thing that this is what happened. They had no doubt the cars would have performed much better w/ premium unleaded (91+)....

i have no idea where edmunds gets its results sometimes... 6.1 is something that C&D gets for the 60mph dash

for the TL-S, Edmunds quoted about 7.2 seconds while C&D was able to push it to 6.1 and they say the TL-P is around 8seconds when its 6.7 from C&D

those stats that they quoted were probably taken from C&D and not tested by themselves

(not bashing your info, just saying how Edmunds sucks monkey ballz when it comes to testing)

I owned a '01 CL-S and traded it in for a '03 G35 sedan (auto). So, I feel I'm qualified to state that the G35 is every bit as fast as the CL-S if not faster. But let's put it this way, they are damn close! What I will say is the CL-S feels more powerful off the line, but the G35 really pulls and is wicked fast when you get to 30-35MPH. So, it doesn't suprise me if a CL-S will get a slight jump off the line but then the G35 quickly catches up. If you were racing on a 1/4 mile drag strip I would venture to guess that the G35 would eventually pull slightly ahead of the CL-S towards the end of the 1/4 mile. But otherwise, it would be very close. But this is purely my opinion based on having owned a CL-S and currently owning a G35. I haven't raced a CL-S or been witness to a race between a CL-S and a G35.

Takeflight, magnificent writing. You are exactly right in your analysis, I blew him off the line by maybe a car, and then from 0-70 we were exactly tied, from 0-60 I had a little lead then we were tied from 60-70. Remember, he still doesnt have synthetic oil in his car and has only 1300 miles. the G35 auto will barely edge out a auto 03 Cl-S most of the time.
