03 CL-S 5AT at a local dealer...did I do the right thing?

Hello All-

I was at a local HONDA dealer and saw/testdrove a 2003 CL-S 5AT White with Tan leather, No NAV, No fog lamps, No Spoiler with 34,800 Miles. No CPO since it's a Honda dealer...the "Sale" price on the window said $23,7XX. It drove nice and all but I did notice some Minor (Maybe) issues with it.

The front bumper and rear bumper color seemed to not match the entire car..it has a little darker shade of white to it..I asked if this was normal and the guy/salesman said, yes since it's plastic, it fades faster than the metal pieces (I dunno about this explanation).

The front hood does not exactly line up very well when closed, there is a small difference with the gap from the left side to the right..also the front bumper and the fender does not line up perfectly..it sticks out maybe 1/4 of an inch.

Since everything else was working OK..I thought I'd make an offer of 1500 above the KBB Trade-in value..they gave me this look and asked me to look at the KBB Trade-in value..I did and WOW I didn't realize that these things as new as they are only booked for ~17K....so I counter offered with $20K OTD...they said it was tooo low..I shook their hands and thanked them for their time then left...

DID I WALK OUT ON A GOOD DEAL????

Thanks
Mike

i think 20k is even too much, you could get six speeds with comparable or lower mileage for arond 2k

could the real reason its not CPO be because it has been in an accident?

As for the price, I paid 21 for my CL-s 6-speed with 34,5xx miles which was CPO and I know I overpaid a little bit. Their sticker price was 25,995. I'm surprised they didn't go for your offer.

With 20 grand you can probably get a 6-speed in the black market with the remainder of a CPO warranty

Acura removed the road lamps in 2003 because of a few states and their strict regs.

That does NOT sound like a good deal N_TSX.

the car retails for 30,000

you are buying a 3 year old car with no warranty/CPO
You think it was wrecked, which from what you say, it seems that it was.

It was probably wrecked, if the paint on the bumper doesnt match the car it means the bumpers were repainted, dont belive his bullshit excuse of the paint fades faster, thats not true. How often do you see a car with non-matching bumper and body paint? never. If the hood doesnt line up, something must of happend to make the hood not line up. Take a close look inside the engine bay and around the wheel wells, look for screws that dont look factory, like you can tell they were removed and put back (especially noticable on the black screws; the inside of the screw that was black is now silver because it was removed and replaced), look for overspray on plastic parts inside the engine bay, look inside the door jams for welds, etc.

Thanks for the replies folks..I didnt realize that this car was only 30K when new..I thought for sure these were mid 30's cars as this is the first time i've looked into them.

BTW: I would love to have a 6 Speed, but my other car is already a manual and it only goes out once or twice a month..this will be a daily driver and the wife will also drive this thing and she doesnt know how to drive a manual car... ..so Auto it must be

Thanks
Mike

Nope. You did well by walking...

Check out the prices on CL's on autotrader.com. You'll be surprised at some of the bargains out there. Don't forget to browse the black market here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/non-automotive-motorcycle-sales-9/

If I was looking for a new car now (I'm not), I'd sell you my stock 03 6spd w/ 37K miles for $20K

you definitely did the right thing, I picked up my 03 SSM 6-speed (non-navi) at the beginning of the summer for $18,700. You can definitely find them for better prices than $20k.

Thanks for the offer, but at this time im looking for a daily driver and longevity is what Im after..I drive 40-60K miles per year and I want a car that is luxurious with some guts, but NOT that kind of guts ...BONE STOCK CPO upto 100K miles would be perfect..

That's way too much. If you like the car....keep looking. I'm sure you will find another one for a lot less.
