03 Accord Impressions

Went with the parents shopping for an 03 Accord this afternoon. Not my type of car (I would rather have a 350z, but it's not for me)

I have to say I was VERY impressed with this car. I was one of those that said it looked ugly from the pictures, but in person it's not bad at all. The rear is a large but overall not bad compared to it's competition (the Alitma we looked at is total crap inside and outside). From the side with the 16 inch rims, it has a sporty profile.

The interior of this car is awesome. After getting back into my CLS after sitting in the Accord for a while, I felt like I was downgrading. I hate it when new cars come out. Makes me envyous. The leather seats were very comfortable, the quality of the leather felt better than ours, the interior was solid overall, and the instrument cluster was great looking and well built. Very impressive for a midsize family sedan.

Took the v6 for a test drive. Not as strong as our car off the line but it has plenty of power for the parents. Ride was decent too. Comfortable but not as communicative. Not my type of car (I would prefer something a little more sporty) but overall I think Honda hit a home run with this car.

The best part of all is that the dealer is willing to give a discount on this car already. About 25k for an EX-V6. Can't beat that price. Parents didn't order it yet, but I think it's almost a done deal

BTW, we also looked at the new Saab 9-3. Very nice looking car and not expensive at all. ~25k also for a well equipped model. Just a little smaller and less solid feeling than the Accord.

Sounds good, I agree with you about seeing it in person, looks alot better. I just hope the car doesn't make as many squeaks and rattles as my CL-S and my sister's 97 accord. That is my only gripe, otherwise i wouldn't mind owning the new accord.

Re: 03 Accord Impressions

I also went to the Honda Dealer to look at the new 03 Accord sedan. I'ts very sharp looking from the outside.

Cusdaddy,

I'm sorry bro, but you MUST Be on Crack !! to THINK THAT the ACCORD Interior "felt" better than the CL-S, YOU FELT Like you where "downgrading" once you stepped back into our CL-S ?? OMFG ! You actually want to call that POS Leather in that Accord Leather? I hope you mean cheap Imitation Leather. Seriously i found it NO where Near our Leather quality, not even near the base CL leather quality. More like leather vinyl. Seriously though, The Leather is "Ok" for what your paying for the car . However the Seats sucked ass. They dont even "cup" you so to speak, no wings to keep you in place, not very sporty.

The CD player controls "looked" pretty kool, but when you actually start to press the buttons, they have that hard platic feel. not as a soft touch to ours. And whats up with that big Ass Tray behined by the shifter, In Honda's brochure they call it the CD Case storage, why in the hell would you want to store 12 cd cases there.

Also, there Speedo Guage IS HUGE !!! that guage is big enough for my blind grandma to see !!

But seriouly though...... the New Accord Does have the BEST bang for the BUCK. Remeber YOU pay For What you Get !!

I checked out the new coupe today as well... i was very impressed. I like it alot.

I think they did a great job on the entire car including the interior. I couldnt get into haptics as I didnt play with any the controls... But the leather is exactly the same as ours...

Is it just me or is the new Accord's trunk significantly larger than the CL-S's?

A friend of mine just bought a new Accord. They just came off a lease with an 01 Maxima, thought about another Maxima, but after driving the Accord..... Not to mention they said the Honda dealer was offering a better deal than the Nissan dealership. Checked it out and for a family car it looks great. Love the new steering wheel controls. The new Accord has me salivating to see what the new TL/ CL(?) will be like!

Those comparison pics are very helpful (even if it is a TLS not a CLS in the rear seat pics). Thanks!

Accord has nothing on the CLS/TLS in interior quality, but looks like a decent choice for the braket on par with the Maxima, Toyotas, etc.

I’m not saying it’s better or equal to the CL/TL, but that Accord interior is LIGHT YEARS ahead of anything that Nissan/Infinity is selling this year.
Excluding the 50,000+ dollar sedans of course.

The only extra buttons I see are the channel DOWN and MODE, whatever that does.
Far from “full controls”.

After looking at the comparison pics, I guess I may have been wrong saying the Accord interior is way better than ours. I guess ours is a little nicer. It just felt really nice for a car of it's class, and I liked the more modern look of the Nav system. I still feel the leather is nicer in the Accord. Just felt softer, although the seats of our car are light years ahead.

I still like the cluster in the CL-S better than the new Accord...I like how each gauge is recessed in it's own little hole and the silver is very nice. However, the steering wheel controls on the Accord seem much more modern than ours...better audio controls. But I think the CL/TL interior is still better aesthetically. The Accord is a bit more modern, but it just doesn't do it for me.

the seats in the new accord coupe are much better vS. the sedan...they are very comfortable and grip the person nicely, 2 be honest w/ u they reminded me of the CL-S seats

Shawn S,
the mode button switches b/w am/fm1/fm2 and the cd player the channel +/- button allows u to go to ur next preset or the preceding one, when playing a cd, it allows u 2 go 2 the next tracks or go backwards to some past track

I test drove the sedan at college park honda. It had pretty good pick up and take off. I don't see how road and track got it at 0-60 in 8 secs. Felt pretty athletic to me. For a family car it's interior is far better than the nissans (not infiniti). The leather did suck. Maybe because the one i drove has been sitting in front of the lot in the sun. It didn't feel like how nice soft leather should feel. It also looked like vinyl/leather. The grey leather (like the one I test drove had) looked extremely cheap. They also had none on the lot with navi. They said navi will be in maybe a couple of months from now.
