has anyone driven the '03 auto accord v6? How does it feel compared to the CLS? in terms of pining you to your seat? The reason I'm asking all this is because I'm considering trading in my cavalier Z24 for it, sometime in the very near future! I don't want to go with the wrx, because of the auto tranny turbo lag. I need the auto because of traffic!

Its a close run. The V6 Accord has a 200lbs advantage with 20 less horsepower and 20 less torque. They are pretty much equal throughout the 1/4 mile. One guy on V6accord.com ran a 15.0 at 93.9 with only 3000 miles in his 03 Accord V6 Sedan. I am running mine soon!

CL-S auto for 1/4mile should be 14.8 to 14.6 (depends on the weather condition on the track)

What is more important to you, 1/4 mile times, daily transportation, features, price?

Acceleration is close, both are fast enough. A CLS has more features, better warranty. For a daily driver in heavy traffic, I'd go with the acorn. 4 door = less insurance. Probably a more comfortable, less sport ride, enough power.

I just bought a Accord EX V6 auto sedan without Navi for 23,888 before tax and license. I was comitted to getting a CLS or TLS for 27,800 but the Accord is brand new, almost as good, and 4000 cheaper. Plus the CL and TL are due for replacement next year.

Yes I wish I could've waited, but I've already put off a new car purchase for too long. 1 more year would be too long.

Yes everything stock the cls will win everytime. But there was the USA Today article about the Accord putting out an extra 10hp with premium gas. There is also a new $350 Injen CAI already dynoed to provide 10+hp and tq. So with these little mods the Accord will win everytime.

Then you add headers and CAI to the cls and it will win everytime.

No headers possible for the 03 Accords.

Well you should still come out to one of our meets so we can see it. Then you can go for a little twisty run and we'll see how you do

My parents just bought an 03' Accord EX (picked it up yesterday)

They were going to get the V6, but ended up with the 4 cylinder. They decided to save some $$ as the 4 cylinder was plenty powerful for their needs, and they said they didn't notice much of a difference between the v6 and the 4 in around town driving.

I was pushing them to get the V6, so I took both for a test drive. I feel there is no way that the Accord V6 will beat our CLS in the 1/4 mile. The V6 accord didn't even feel THAT much stronger the 4 cylinder off the line. It was weak down low (compared to our cars at least). It had power higher up in the rev-range like ours, but I was not impressed with it's torque down low.

The V6 Accord is definitely fast, but I think our car is slighly faster stock/stock

BTW.. I am very impressed with the '03 Accord. I have been driving it around much of today. Very solid, has a great steering feel, very comfortable seats, a nice interior and overall feels very refined for the $$. I had to get back into my car, and I was disappointed to hear the rattles, and the overall looser feeling of the car (probably due to age)

i never had the chance to test drive one yet
but i did rcae one last night, it was stick.

he got the jump of the line and then i blew right past him at 90
he was 1 car behind.

next light we did it again
same results at 70 i was a least 1 cars ahead.

next light he rolls his window and ask me what the he'll i'm i running the salesman told him he would blow our car away.

i ask him to try at a roll we went at 35 miles an hr and again i pulled away as he shift i widen the gap again.

it seems there is diffent gearing between the cars.?

I have sometimes to when you guys... say "this does not feel faster"... and so on...

This is BS and pure crap... unless you race both cars side to side on offical drag strip with experienced drag racers.... sorry to say it all your opinions about whos is quicker are crap...

No need to elaborate more ... it is a fact, unless there is an accurate measurment procedure/tool... you can not claim who is faster...

the best comparison is stock vs stock. when you mod one car you have to mod the other car or its not a fair comparison. you could put on the intake and premium gas in the accord but a cl-s with comptech headers will beat it PERIOD.

remember the driver is a big factor too. you must have equal drivers or its not fair to compare which car is faster.

the type s will be faster at higher speeds no doubt. reason why he got a good launch is probably you got a bad launch.

One thing more... I hate stressing 0-60 numbers... I like more numbers that make real sense...

0-60 are only useful when merging to HW from a stop (do not like it...)

Better ...say passing a slow car :
1) 45-70 MPH
2) 65-110 MPH

And so on...

Not sure if this was pointed at me, I was just giving my opinion. I know it's not a fact. I never said it was. Isn't this board supposed to be a place to give our opinions of cars?

Driver is probably one of the biggest factors in the end. I saw it first-hand with my car at E-Town. I went from a 10.8 to a 9.3 1/8th in the same day just learning how to launch my auto CLS

I paid 600 bucks over invoice for my coupe. You might have to work with them a little but they can drop the price. I do not have navi. Boy what an upgrade this car will be from your cavelier.

The Accord is a nice freeway car with a nice V6, by no means is it capable in the twisties. Perhaps the 6sd coupe would be more capable.

The 5spd auto in the new V-6 Accords has the same gearing as the CL/TL except for 4th & 5th gear.
Those top two gears are shorter so there definitely could be an advantage even though peak HP is off a little. (plus a little less weight)

the tsx has a misreable 190 horse! I'm not dissing, but in light of the new accord coupe, I don't understand why you would buy a TSX-s, or RSX-s. Acura in this case is in direct competition with honda!
