01 cls vs. S2000

so the race takes place from a 50 roll.

i have
intake
obx headers
ct exhaust
ct tranny cooler
mugen cooling mods
im an auto

he has S2000 (2002)
has a 50 shot but says he wont use it

so at the 50 roll he just tells me to go. so im SS in 2nd and punch it. as does he. through 2nd i have 1/2 car on him. then we hit 3rd and he instantly pulls next to me and ends up pulling a 1/2 car to 90. where i shut down.

question i have is did he spray on me. or should i expect this all the time?

I think you merely were beat by him. He would of handed you your ass if he was spraying NO2. The s2000 does it's best work on the highway. At 50mph, he's in 2nd gear in the meat of his power curve. If you raced from a dig, you would of probably won

yeah but he caught up really fast. like fast as shit. not catch up as in merely getting beat. like if i stayed on it i would have had my ass handed to me

i am also in the meat of my power curve. i can hang with most high 13's cars from a 50 roll.

sounds like he COULD have used a mini-squeeze for shits n giggles? However I don't know the s2k's power at these speeds? Who knows, maybe they pull really hard at that spot in the powerband? Either way, great race! S2K's are low 14sec cars

if he was stock you should of won the race with all of your mods and being in 3rd gear. 4th gear is where you would of lost. maybe he used the bottle.

Thing is, while you shifted to 3rd, I think his car stayed in second cause of how high that engine revs. But if you felt he caught up too quick, I'm guessing he did spray a bit or something.

At 50mph the S2k is close to its powerband. Its sitting right below vtec engagement. The vtec engagement is at 6k but it doesnt start to hit hard untill you pass 7k. So Im guessing he did not use the bottle, you just have to wait till the rpms climb in order for the S to pull. And from a dig, a properly driven S will launch hard. Ive seen S2k's hit 13's in stock form but low 14's is more consistent since its not an easy car to drag.

however, from a dig the s2k would rape the cl

my s2k owns the cl in just about every way, need some headers to even it out
but it does make the cl feel like a torque monster

The 2.0's had 153ft lbs, the new 2.2's have 161ft lbs, either way pretty gutless until insane rpm levels.

If you drive it like a madman they can be fast, like 14.0's. Anything less than WOT and they are just another slow 4 banger. In the 5-60mph normal street launch they run like 6.8, which is equivalent to like low 15's. :killer:

True, you have to drive the car hard to get it be fast. Since the S has no lowend torque. The car has to be pass 6k to start pulling. As for 1/4 times most S drivers have trouble getting a good 60' time so thats why alot of the 1/4 times are not into the 13's but 13's are possible with the car.

i have only driven a few pre-04s and none very hard, the 04 only has 160 some ft lbs of torque but it is a much better curve and doesn't quite feel like the on/off acceleration of the pre-04s imo

you do have to drive the car hard to get it fast, but launching is not necessarily that hard, drop the clutch at 4-5k and go, however keeping your diff intact while doing it is the challenge... i've never done it, but getting the rpm's up isnt really a problem

i just have an icebox on my s2k and it screams... i would bet on it anyday over my cl-s 6er despite the torque...

the only decent race i have had in the s2k was against an srt-4 on interstate 64 outside of williamsburg.... guy was trying to line us up for like 15 min and we finally got to an open stretch of road doing about 50-55, just shy of the engagement point in 3rd i believe... either way i counted down from 3 and we both took off... he pulled about 1/4-1/2 a car length immediately until vtec kicked in... evened it up with him having a bumper on me to about 90 and then we shut down and he kept rolling over 100, caught up and gave him a thumbs up and he did the same...

other than that can't do a whole lot of racing up here in nova, too much traffic to bother

the cool thing about that car is once you learn to just run it up to redline, and thats all you have to do, not as hard to drive (imo) as many say it is... you just learn to stay in the powerband and heads turn in a hurry

i am on s2ki very rarely, don't really post much, just to get info...

and 15's??? i guess i haven't run any track times but i would find it hard to believe you could run any slower than the cl in the s, its just more conisistent off the line, i have never spun tires in the s... and i couldn't keep the cl tires from breaking loose every time...

i've raced 2 friends w/S2Ks. My cls (auto) has i/h and it's a very close. Who ever launches the best wins. Equal launches/drivers the s2k wins.

Its all about the launch in the s2k. You have to beat up the car to be fast. 6000-7000 rpm launches will get it to 13.8. If you don't launch it hard your looking at ~14.2. (pre 04)

My CL-S definately felt stronger because of the torque but my s2000 feels a lot faster. When I give people rides they always think I'm speeding cuz the car feels like its going faster then it is.

03typeS6speed, isn't that your girls car? J/K but isn't that the pic of you washing the CL-S so it wouldn't be jealous of the new S2K?

yeah it is, technically it is mine, but she bought the cl-s for me because of it being discontinued, so i bought the s2k for her... so it evens out one way or the other...

jealous of the s2k... no...

In my own experience, jtkz's observation is right on. On low cam(?) it is pretty gutless.

I drove my friends S2K and the thing is DEAD pre-VTEC crossover. Upon crossover though, the thing's a TOTAL BEAST; staring at the digi speedo under high cam hard acceleration will make you go crosseyed.

In normal driving it gives NO indication of its performance potential and really feels as slow as a Civic EX. (And my friend ran a 13.9 sec ET while in stock form.)

IMO, it's the ideal AutoX/road course car but not really drag strip car. It would be interesting to see the outcome of a similar race (like Brady's) where the CL is a 6MT.

Peace.

assuming that is a pre-04 then?

and the rwd makes it feel very different from ANY other honda I have driven

previous owned:

84 accord
88 accord lx
01 accord coupe lx

and i drove a 00 civic si (roommates) for a couple of years which had the same kind of sleeping beast vtec crossover, and it still doesn't feel like the s2k, same kind of delayed power but not on the same scale
