If you think a CL is expensive, never buy a German car.

And Its a luxury vehicle, so you pay for it. And our cars get very good mileage if you don't floor it all the time. I get 30 mpg on the highway. Insurance isn't insane. Its inflated slightly cause its cinsidered a sports car for some reason and has a problem with HID theft in some areas. And parts and maintnence are cheap. The only thing you would have to worry about is the tranny, otherwise everything else will hold up,

Don't know your price range but I see private party 01s starting about $12-15k, that's cheap for all you get standard on the CLS...this was a $28-30k car.
on ebay they go for less than $10k too.

my insurance company has my car valued at $17K right now, and I have an 01.

If I didn't love it so much, I'd total it.

I don't think that my CLS is that more expensive to maintain and insure then my last car (1994 Ford T-bird). Insurance went up a little, and the service charges (from a dealer) are a little more, but I bought my Tbird for 12K (w/ 14K miles on it) vs. 29K (new) for the CLS.

I just look at the addition cost involved as preparation for future Porsche (or german car) ownership...

The 01 CL S is not that expensive to maintain, Infact, I get Free oil changes and pay about $135 for Service every 15K miles with my dealer Acura Of Orange Park in Jacksonville Florida. Insurance is not that bad for a Luxury car.
Infact I have mine for Sale cos I am looking at a MB SUV with a new addition in family coming up soon : ). If you are interested email me at onlineramman@yahoo.com, Its a 01 CL S Silver, M% Lip Spoiler Painted, Yellow Ion Fogs. 50K Miles CERTIFIED. I had fact Warr till Feb 05, Now it has a 12K/1 Year after which I got a 7 Year 100K bump to Bumper...($1000) which is not included in the price. I am looking to get $16,500.

Most expensive necessary part about the CL is the tires.

If your under 25 of course insurance will be expensive.

If you are used to paying for regular gas in an econ. car the premium gas in a CL will be a hard adjustment.

Most expensive possibility is tranny giving out post 100K miles

Most expensive habit is modding.

For what you're buying, I think the price is not bad. I thought I got a good deal on my car. If you're looking for a foreign, luxary/performance inspired coupe, I'm not too sure if there are many that are cheeper. As for maintainance, I have had my car for a year and other than oil changes, it cost me about $250 for a new set of brakes.

Shop around, I'm sure you can find one for the right price.

As for insurance, my 01 CL-s costs less to insure than my sister's 01 Altima. Call your insurance agent and ask him to look up the numbers for this car compared to something like a Maxima or an Infiniti. Make sure you're sitting down when he gives you the totals.

Well, if its too expensive get yourself honda civic like the rest of the guys your age. If you can't afford it then buy something you can. don't try and live above your means. You can still get hoez in a civic, jus young ones.

i got my '01 CL-S brand new when i was 24 and my insurance was only $900 a year for pretty average coverage, standard deductibles.. i had a couple of speeding tickets and usually average about 1 every couple of years (none of them in a car though, hope this doesn't jinx me).. i would shop around for a lower rate..

Insurance companies don't charge more for red cars anymore. SC? I would expect South Carolina's insurance to be cheaper than most states.

Every vehicle I've ever owned was red but none of my insurance companies asked or even cared.

Yeah, they used to charge more for red cars, saying that the color was a "distraction" to other drivers, causing more wrecks than other cars. They finally realized that was Honda's canary yellow is far more eyecatching than SMR!
