**HELP** Those that have cleared their lights!!

I am in the process of doing it right now, and I am having a hell of a time! I think I might be in over my head, how did you guys get those god damn pieces apart?!?! I have been working a screwdriver around the edge while blowing the hairdryer on it and I am not getting anywhere. Are there any tricks you found or any solvent that might dissolve that damn silicone? Anything at all you can tell me would be helpful, thanks...

I havn't cleared my lights but to get the silicone off , try getting a lighter or blow torch, heat up your screw driver and run it through it should melt the silicone right through.

you need to start at the inside corner of the light...and as you are blowing it w/hair dryer you need to slowly pry apart while the silicon starts to heat up...

Woh!! Don't use a blowtorch!! Especially if you're doing it by yourself, one slip and your light is gone! Just start from an edge and you have to warm it up real good like for 10 min or so..maybe less. and use the screwdriver to push some silicone away and sooner or later you can push right throw and start sliding the screwdriver to the side and separate. email me if you need any help.

Super & lanjae, approx. how long did it take you to get through one light? Did you do this project yourself? I think i have given up and will put my car back together tomorrow, I just wish I could pay someone in the area like $100 bucks to finish the job. Crap...

not a blow torch on the light, a blow torch to heat up the screw driver

I purchased some latex gloves just to be safe. To be honest, if I had not had someone help me I would have had no idea what I was doing. I wish you luck...

Thanks for all your input guys, but honestly I don't think I am going to try to do it again unless an expert wants to help me out.

Im guessing no company will ever make replacement housings for our cars either because of all that HID crap attached to it.

Oh well, that damn orange is just going to bug me forever it seems...

Except, did anyone else notice the housings on the SEMA CL?!?!?! On those latest pics that someone posted, it appears that they have the black insides (instead of chrome) like some aftermarket companies make. Those would be schhweet!

i found the oven is much better just preheat to 250 then put them in for liek 10-12 minutes, then use some oven mits or yard workign gloves. once you get the top part off you need to unscrew this chrome plastic, 2 philips screws not hard and just poke it out, screw back on. i didnt take any of the old silicone off i just bought 2 tubes of silicone sealant from hardware city and layered it and sat on it for liek 5 minutes to be sure and then put it back in the oven for about 10 minutes, took it out sat on it for another 5 minutes then pput that baby back in my car.

my first light took me a little longer than the second because of the experimental process but once i got down a technique the second one took like 20 minutes plus the oven ehating time.

buy me a train ticket and i'll do it for free, i've always wanted to ice skate on lake michigan

ive cleared out about 4 sets of headlights now..and ive finished relatively quickly..the way i did it was to preheat my oven to 325 degrees i think...maybe thats too high...anyway i heated the entire headlight for a couple minutes and the pieces came apart really easily
