***** Xephyr Recall ***** READ ASAP !!!

Can you RECALL the times that MotorTrend, Car&Driver, Road&Track were posting for our Type S??? I believe that I have once and for all CRUSHED any doubt of the performance of the Type S and the Xephyr Performance CAI.

I think that Xephyr NightShade just maybe the FASTEST documented track CL Type S to date. Well at least until Beatyallz and a few other start posting their timeslips ... LOL

Tonight the Xephyr NightShade Type S made it's debut appearance at Atco Raceway, In Atco New Jersey !! Temperature at the track was 42 degrees Fahrenheit - Humidity was 66% - Barometer read 29.90 and light flurries, track conditions were **SLICK** as we were getting some flurries, and The Type S was a ROCKET !!!

The only race lost was to a Pontiac Firehawk. And one Supercharged Corvette that SPANKED me with a 1/4 mi. time of 10.09 However here are the results...

14.424
14.442
14.497
14.509

Yes that's right !!!!! Armed with a STOCK TYPE S on stock rims, stock rubber, 93 Octane Gasoline and THE XEPHYR PERFORMANCE CAI.

Well I am sure you would all like to see the slips to back these claims up ?? Wouldn't you?

Well Boys and Girls!!!!

Some of you may ask: "Xephyr, How do we know that these are your slips??"

Well by the truth of my written and spoken word.... and by looking at my car number 1009 printed above all those pretty 14.4's .... That corresponds to the "BIG SHOE-POLISH" one of the pics I took of my car here at the Track -> Next Message Post Below

Additionally, for anyone requiring more significant proof ... (Nashua... I already hear it coming LOL) You might try and locate ANYONE that attended tonight at ATCO Raceway and inquire to the "Sleeper Terrorizing The Mustangs" as the announcer lovingly introduced the car with every run You may also be able to call the track at (856) 768-2167 and ask if they can look up or verify the slips for the car and the Driver -> That's Me ..Christopher Koncur

I have to say the track was slippery as a greased pig from the moisture and oil that was on the pit area.... with the Upgraded tires upgraded I HONESTLY think I could have hit 14.3's. I roasted all of 1st and half of second down the strip.

I hope you all find this enjoyable reading. I will be posting more photos from the cockpit while in line of all the "Guppies" that fell victim to Nightshade.

DDDAAAAAAYYYYHHHHMMMM!!

Excellent times bro. Jackie is jealous now, must go faster. Well, we'll add another one to tell Car & Driver that the CL Type S is much faster than they reported.

BTW, excellent reaction times!! .5s are damn quick. Best I've hit is in the .7s.

Below is my post from a while back.

2001 Acura CL Type S Temple Academy Dragway Nov. 17th, 2000
Tim Brantner Temp - high 30's, low 40's, humid, front tires deflated to 25psi, running on E (gas)
Reaction 60 Ft. 330 Ft. 1/8 ET 1/8mph 1/4ET 1/4mph comments
Run 1 0.8731 2.3288 6.3429 9.6407 74.44 14.8708 93.65 had been sitting for a while, VSA off,
Run 2 0.7564 2.3796 6.4714 9.8111 15.0771 92.84 got right back in line
Run 3 1.1764 2.3451 6.4598 9.8169 15.1043 92.59 got right back in line
Run 4 0.7613 2.394 6.5353 9.9234 72.85 15.2582 91.79 don't know what happened
Run 5 0.8067 2.4275 6.5868 9.9622 15.2708 92.21 vsa on, a/c on
Run 6 1.106 2.3666 6.3989 9.7091 14.9408 93.45 cooled off for a while
Run 7 0.7488 2.3353 6.3855 9.6925 74.28 14.9272 93.53 cooled off for a while
Went to River City Raceway on Dec 8th in Seguin, TX. In the 40's that night, running on 1/4 tank. I had gutted the bottom of stock airbox so there is basically the stock rubber ring and hole at bottom of airbox, replaced the resonator muffler with a straight pipe on the exhaust(mistake, sounds more powerful, but like a little yip-yip b/n 1 and 2000 r.p.m.), took off one of the mufflers (and still had exhaust coming out of the one muffler surprisingly), deflated front tires to 20 p.s.i, put a little octane booster in, pulled the spare tire and all my other stuff out of the trunk, VSA off, revving b/n 1 and 2000 rpm at start, and let the engine cool down a bit between runs.

I don't have all of my runs (mostly 14.7s,14.8s), but here is the fastest Jackie has ever gone.

reaction: 0.7624 secs.
60ft: 2.3282 secs.
330ft: 6.2563 secs.
1/8: 9.4772 secs.

1/4: 14.6185 secs.
1/4 mph: 96.09 mph

Folks:

Let me add that these times are 1/2 tank of gas, spare tire in the trunk, and all 173lbs of me I don't have any stock slips but I dont think any of our members that ran their cars stock broke below 14.6 Maybe Im off and if I am I am sure I'll be corrected and probably repremanded LOL

Might I add DYNO THIS!

LOL

I love it when the proof is in the pudding This is the real deal taking into account Drag Coeficient, Tire Spin, Weight ..... lol

I also did all of these runs in Auto D3 with an RPM base of between 2000-3000RPM off the line And as Jim Carey would say in the mask SMOKIN !!!!

LOL thats what I said Several times too might I add LOL

And I know the title is misleading BUT it guarunteed that It would get read faster then my 60' foot times Sorry but I couldn't help myself

Folks let me tell you from first hand experience nothing and I mean NOTHING is better at the track then to SMOKE some Mustangs that roll up to the pit.. Roast their tires to the point your eyes tear up in the lane next to them... with exhausts that are damn near deafening... And give you the "I'm gonna kick your a$$ smile" only to find themselves staring at the a$$ of a 3.2 liter Acura with one bolt on

I am still in the dark about the CARB status I havent been able to obtain any updates from the Cali. Air Resource Board Please post another topic for this if you dont mind I want to revel in my glory and bask in my wins untainted for a thread LOL

I thought BeatYaAll had that picture of the 13.9 at the end of the track. Was this not so. Didn't he have a time slip on the other board????

Pretty good times you got. Now get some sticky tires, headers, V-AFC, and really light wheels to break 14!

I loved the full documentation -- very cool

You don't answer your mail either!

Wow I think this topic takes the award for not only the best title attention grabber but also for the longest to load.. hehe. Great runs Chris.. I concur with the others if you can post numbers like these ... think of a few other mods and we can break into the 13's and maybe with a supercharger.. low-mid 13's or dare I even dream into the high 12's.. maybe not but hey we can dream.. hehe =P

I ran your data though the NHRA calculator and used a weight of 3700 lbs total (3500 for car, 150 for you, and 50 for gas).

I put in a time of 14.6 (along with some others). It showed a rear wheel horsepower rating of 230+ hp. You can try out the calcs if you like. This all sounds kosher!

The 40 degree temp with baro and humidity would give you about 5% more HP at the rear wheels. So it does look like your getting about 10 more ponies (using my guesstimator) with the CAI.

BTW -- your corrected ETs would have bumped the times up by about .07 seconds according to the NHRA correction calculator (using your temps, baro, and humidity.

Here is the link to the NHRA corection calculator:

Nice Chris, Very Nice! Of course while your out making a reputation for the CAI, we're all being delayed the opportunity to look at more enhancements from Xephyr Performance! So, get back to your night job! And, don't ever use recall again..

I think it's obvious what I was out to prove. The abilities of the Acura 3.2 CL Type S with multiple documented track runs for starters. The Performance gained by utilizing the Xephyr Performance CAI as two. I think +90% of our members were pleased in seeing not only the track information but details of conditions, and driving strategies. If you aren't one of them and aren't interseted, or don't need this information then more power to you. I think what I set out to prove was done so... Performance of the car and of my product, and I need not spell it out again.

Mike:

I have to say I was dissapointed w/GTECH PRO at the track it was recording 1/4 mile times .4 -.6 faster then the track slips were showing and worse yet it consistently was showing my trap speed between 101 - 104 MPH !?!?! I may have not had it set properly in terms of being perpendicular to the windshield

However in the defense of the GTECH, the suspension is all stock on the car so I had A Lot of squat launching off the line that quite probably may have thrown the readings off.

I am starting to wonder if the squat is throwing off the times on our cars in the 1/4 mile. That would be one factor that would really mess the unit up.

Note for GTECH... It would be nice for their next unit to:

1. Have a better mount with less play, and have a nice knob to adjust the tilt/angle of the unit to zero it out (with great ease).

2. If they had a "hold" function to lock in the zeroed out position, it would be possible (assuming they added a second accelerometer/sensor) to detect the "tilt" of the unit under squat.

(Just my opinion [before someone jumps me]).

EricL,

I agree with all of your points. This unit is the most reliable method of reproducable results, which is best for testing tweaking and new mods after establishing a baseline. I think a Zero-Hold button and better mounting solution (alan key or adjustable torque lever) would provide not only reproducible results, but more accurate readings. I have seen the unit be +/- .01 off to 1 sec off on 0-60, Approx. 1-5 MPH off on 1/4 Traps, and .10 - 1.0 sec off on quarter mile times... Not bad for the money and for baselines.... but very difficult to mount on our concave windshield / perpendicular position and maintain level on stock suspension with a hard launch.

BTW:

I have a new rust-proofing vulcanizing compound on my car.....I have yet to get all of the rubber and tar off the undercarriage, wheel-well, tires, and lower panels off the car. Glad I had a lot of wax on the car

Why was your dashboard so shiny?
What were those Susuki and Coors on the top of the track receipt? Was that both drivers' last names?
Did you happen to get a look at that 5.0 Mustang's slip?
