Is $9k worth it?
There is this 2001 black acura CL with around 130k miles. Is it worth the money? It has a salvage title, because it got hit at the right front corner. The accident did not damage the engine component much, not even the radiator. It's just the light, bumper, and some paint off the fender.

It would be a great deal if it did have have a Salvage title...
Here are the national auction values for the last 2001 CLS with 130000miles sold.
Rememeber it has a clear title. Also futher more, IF the tranny fails your most likely going to have to pay 100% for rebuild costs.. could be a few $1000

Is is worth it ?? No.
Stay away from salvage titled cars. You'll get killed on resale.
If it were for $6K I might have a different opinion, but since a 01 CLS with a clean title (as F900 points out) isn't going to cost that much more, you're probably better off buying a CL with a clean title. The savings isn't enough IMHO to justify buying a salvaged vehicle in this case.
Heck, there are 03 6spds that are getting down into the low teens (under $15K):

I work in auto insurance and in order for a vehicle to be considered salvaged the damage to the vehicle has to a great percentage of the vehicles value or else the insurance company would just pay to fix it themselves instead they tag it salvaged and sell and someone else fixes it often times with cheap parts. Your description of the damage makes it seem very minor but if it was salvaged believe me it wasn't minor. 9k isn't worth it I don't know what part of the country your in but I have seen some clean title 01's with less mileage for just a few thousand more.

salvaged title= big NO NO
if you buy that for 9k, put 5000 miles on it and try to resell it..that salvage title will drop the resale value by a few thousand dollars just cuz of the salvage title..and like others said, the damage u indicated seems minor so if it has that salvage title then the damage was probably much more extensive than you realize or have been told..possible frame damage or something.

It all depends on the actual car. You can easily tell if it has frame damage just by a quick test drive. You can get a really nice car for way less than normal by buying one this way. Just make sure and take the car to an acura dealer and have the service dept check it out. Insurance companies will total cars that could be repaired for cheaper because of the hassle they get if the customer isnt satisfied with the repaired vehicle. Just run a carfax and get it thoroughly checked out. I have purchased 3 vehicles with salvaged titles and have enjoyed all three. The way to price a salvage title is by the rough black book value..

Another thing to think about is not all insurance companies will cover salvaged vehicles and some that do cover them charge more money than for a regular vehicle same model because its look at as a greater risk because salvaged vehicles usuallly don't hold up as well in accidents. Also if you do insure it for "full coverage" and something happens like it is stolen the insurance company will take the KBB or actual cash value of the regular model and devalue it up to 50% and give you that amount. It' not worth it. FUGEDABOUDIT

Actually, state farm covers them like any other car. It will value the car at the "rough" book value if it is totaled in an accident. Which is what you should pay for one if you are a smart buyer...

Black book rough value .. Blue book is for rooks... Of course they are inferior.. Theyve been wrecked or flooded.. Thats why you dont have to pay as much.. Bueller? Bueller? Anyone.. Bueller?
