$200 spring install...BS!!

A week ago I posted something about putting 18" rims on with factory springs. We discussed how it may not look so good…. Anyhow, we got into talking about spring install. I mentioned how here in Minnesota, many shops wanted about $500 to install. In fact I could not find much cheaper. A couple guys (no offence to those guys), told me they paid $100-200 to get their springs installed. I called "Bull Sh**" on that one by asking for the phone number and name of the shop that installed them. Funny I never heard back with any information… Does any one agree they can get springs installed for $100-$200 at a business? If so, what's that business name…and how about a phone number?

Regards,

Dude.. you need to relax. Just b/c you live up in snow country where import shops are few and far between doesn't mean that people don't pay those prices. Move into a populated area where import shops are all around and you will pay those prices. I've even seen people pay as little as $75 (usually in CA or FL).

I posted in your original topic that a dealership in NJ charged $255 for a spring install... and that's through an Acura dealer which is in the Northeast, where prices are a little higher then other areas. Here's the link since you didn't bother searching for it yourself: http://www.parkaveacura.com/comptech/default.htm . So if a dealer in the Tri-State area is charging $255, then you know that import shops around will get it done for less. If you're looking for shops and numbers.. go online.. search for import shops in CA or FL and call them... I bet they'll be half of what your quoted in MN... if not less.

So before you call BS... do a search and get some info. I understand your frustrated b/c you're going to have to pay out your ass... but calling everyone out who replied to you isn't going to help you any.

Sorry dudes...don't mean to get personal. It is very frusterating with these shops trying to rip me off. I just want to have my ducks in a row when I call these MN shops again.

$120 at a shop in SA, TX. It is possible depending on location. As far as your location I don't know!

See...$120? I just think these shops around here have no clue what they are doing. Seems like they are quoting a 8 hour job out of the Acura book.

That's what happens when there's no competition near by...they can charge whatever they want.

Ok, let me ask you this then.... For $100-$200 bucks, how long does it take them? Do they have to take out the back seats and everything?

most shops out here will do it for 50-100$ depending on what you look like walking in. But then again there are about 3 shops in every city.

Get a clue man........

Prices vary depending on where you live, how much competition the shops have, and who you know. Just because someone on this boards says they got it done for 100 could mean alot of things. They might know they guy doing it, there could be three shops in a 10 mile radius competing for business, or they are lying about the price.

Pay what they are asking or do it yourself and stop compaining

Spring installation from a reputable place should take no longer than 2 to 2.5 hours.

Most race shops in SF charge about 60bucks an hour for labor. But the really good shops that do alot of modifying can do installations 1.5 hour tops. Mach3 in SF sharge 110 for spring install.

Also, shops don't have set prices on anything, a lot of it depends on what you look like and how you act walking into the shop. We would vary the prices drastically just by looking at the people. If they looked like they knew what was going on it was usually a decent price, if they walked in clueless it'd go way up. We once charged some idiot 80$ to install a short ram intake

I am in a no import shop area, Cleveland, OH.

I found a place for sway/springs/shocks and they charged $450. This is the closest to reasonable I could get anywhere around the area.

i love it how people can't do their own due diligence. here, i'll take MY TIME to search out stuff since you're calling people out.

PIT CREW
1817 South San Gabriel Blvd
San Gabriel, CA 91776
(626) 573-1837

this shop is just like any one of the other hundreds of import/aftermarket shops in socal...competition drives down prices to the point where:

i got springs/shocks and sways installed for $150 ($75 for springs/shocks, $75 for the sways). only reason why i went to this shop was because the place i normally go to (a friend's) couldn't do it on my schedule, and this place is right down the street from me. quite a few other a-cl members go to this shop as well, and have also mentioned their install prices. they originally quoted me $225 for the job, but if you know what the going rates are for installs, you won't be punked.

if you really want all your ducks lined up, go to the spring manufacturer's websites...H&R, Eibach, Comptech, etc., etc., and look for their distributor or resellers list. you'll have all the phone numbers and addresses you'll need.

man and here i thought 120 for my spring installation was a little on the steep side.

it sucks even more being a woman and trying to get something installed. guys try to rip me off more than anything because they think im stupid.

when i went to buy new tires, i just wanted some bobo brand all purpose tires.
guy tried to tell me the only thing that would fit my car were these toyo z rated racing tires that were 170 bucks a tire.

i wanted to kill him.

Just do it yourself

Most places like Autobarn, or Pep Boys or Auto Zone will rent you tools like the spring compressor or what not. Its so much more satisfying when you did it yourself.

But you can also make people feel so stupid, playin the whole dumb girl role then turn around and call them on it then walk out so not only do they feel like dicks for tryin to rape you but then on top of it they dont get the business and all the negative word about them is spread.

Businesses should start to learn that when someone from the import community comes in they should be treated like gold... Look at PAA I never even heard of them before I came onto this board but with how you all rep them and with some of the install pics and the fact that there is even a tech on the board you'll be damn sure I'm goin there for anything major I have to do. Instead these shops try to dick you over and treat you like your stupid, girls and guys alike, and when you walk out pissed off are you gonna go back to all your friends and recommend them? FUCK NO! Instead your gonna go back and spread the bad word and the shop lost out on so much potential business he doesnt even know it. When someone in the import community Japanese or European even domestics for that matter I guess starts sayin something good about someone or someplace all of their friends are gonna go too because theyll be confident in the work/price ... just my and sorry for the inadvertant rant but just kinda sparked some pissed off memories I guess

Well I gave the guy a funny look and I was like I dont want performance tires I want generic all weather tires.

then he tried to give me some tirade about how my car NEEDED z rated tires. hes like but if you want to be cheap and endanger your life, go ahead.
so his Generic tire was still z rated, but only 130 dollars a tire.. moron.

so just as i said forget and and was about to leave, he brought out the generic tire lol.
and then the asshole tacked on a 50 dollar warranty on the tires without asking me. but thats a different story

CLUofI, thanks for the info. They wanted to charge $400-$550 for just the install. One guy looked in up in the book and said it was two hours "book" for each rear spring by itself.

Folks-- I know I deserve a little "flaming" but I really appreciate your helping me out.

last time i had springs installed i paid $100. this was at altasports in beaverton oregon.

h&r race spring - $140
install - $100
alignment - $70

maybe it helps when you buy the springs from the shop. but it is possible to get springs installed for under $200. someone who knows what they're doing can install 4 springs in around 1.5 hrs.

I was quoted by 2 places. $175 from my local shop SI Motorsports, $225 from Jotech Motorsports. I called Jotech today and got the price since I will be in Dallas this saturday. I will call them back tomorrow and speak to someone different and see if they want my business bad enough to match my local shop.
