Would 17s be too small???

My brother is willing to "LEND" his rims to me but I'm thinking if they would look too small on my car.
Here's how they look like

And I was looking at the Realtime TSX and they are also running 17s as well and they didn't look too bad

(Picture courtesy of Dan Martin. Thanks )

So are your opinions?
Thanks

Considering the stock rims are 17s, I don't think they'd look too small. Of course, the polished lip does kind of create a shrinking effect.

The thing is tho, I'm not looking for a show car look (can't afford it) I actually like race car looks like Spoon wheels on S2Ks, TypeRs, etc....if you know what I mean.

Know exactly what you mean. I like the SSR Competitions so regardless of 17" or 18", they look good.

O.o for some reason, i've always thought RTR TSX has 18" rims.... those look 18" for some reason... maybe because it's dropped aggressively? btw, does anybody know how low RTR TSX is dropped?

If you get 17's you'll have to slam the crap outta your car! It'll look fine if you go for that race look.

IMHO...I think they'll look small depending if the tires are smaller than stock and your car isn't dropped already. If you're cars already dropped you're straight then.

It would depend on the track and set-up required but it can be pretty darn low.

i've been staring at the RTR tsx for a while now, i think the reason why those 17s dont look as small is because they've extended the bottom of the front bumper and all around... that's why most bmw's make their 17s look like 18s, while our tsx stock 17s look like 16s.

17s are too small. I have 18" SSR Comps and 17" Volk GT-C's, both have lips which make them look 1" smaller than they are. At this point I hate 17" wheels (w/ a lip, the stockers still look good and bigger) on my car. I put my SSRs back on recently and was happy for 3 days just looking at my car.

I'm gonna give it a try when it gets warmer up here and I'll see what's the outcome. I'll post some pics too!!!
btw...I'll be using 225/50R17s if I were to use those rims.

Xizor, what kinda drop do you have? It looks good, not too low, just about right, and is that just spring setup? any camber/shock problems?

Yeah, I like the SSR comps and will be getting a set in a few months for the fair weather. I'm still up in the air regarding 17 vs 18 inches. Here in Massachusetts the roads aren't so great, and potholes abound. I don't want to drop $1800 on a set of wheels and tires that will make my ride unbearably rough and get bent by potholes and what not.

How different is the ride quality between 17" and 18"? I'm on stock suspension btw, no body kit or anything.

Ride quality is highly dependent on the brand of tire, tire compound, sidewall material, etc. The size difference itself causes a negligible change in ride quality.

In fact, I would bet that you would have a very hard time telling the difference in ride quality btw a 215-50-17 tire and a 215-45-18 tire of the same brand and model. Furthermore, some 18" tires would actually have better ride quality than some 17" tires.

This has been my experience for the past 19 yrs of buying aftermarket rims and tires for every single car I've owned. I also recall reading a Car and Driver tire test article where they found little difference in ride quality when going up only +1" in size. Even +2" larger didn't significantly affect ride quality.

19" look good imo, i'm happy with the way my car looks with 19's

See Im sorry but I dont Get the Huge Fansination w/ Huge Wheels and low profile tires all of a sudden, If I change the Rims on my Car, the'll Stay 17's...As they Say If u wanna do good In AutoX, Realisticly u shouldnt have anything Bigger then 16's...so the TSX allready has pritty big wheels... I dunno Personally I hate the Slammed 24 look...so that might be part of it...I think back on all the Old Mustang, Vettes, ect...Those things had 15's/16's w/ some rubber on them... I Undestand how wider tires will give u more contact w/ the ground but i dont See How Dropping 19 Inch Wheels on a Car that Realisticly 17's are more then enough... Dropping it to the ground and putting a rubberband for a tire around it...is gonna help performance at all?... I dunno

Dont meen to Offend Anyone w/ the above post, Its your car...Do What You Want  Just Discussing personal Prefrence

Everyone has their own reason to use different size wheels and tires. You track your car. Those of us with bigger wheels probably opt not to track the car, but enjoy showing it more.
I think 18's and 19's make the car look good, especially on the right amount of drop. Makes the car look cleaner, more sleek even.
20's make the car look like it could float on water.
Not everyone is out to race their car.

I'd like to get a set of 18" SSR comps this spring. I just hope they wouldn't look too stupid on a car without lowering or a body kit.

I think is too small, most likely because of the reduced size effect caused by the lip.

With the euro-r kit, it may make the rim to look even smaller. But, if you like how it looks, then i say go for it
