What tire to get?

Is Falken good? I know PS2 or GS-D3 is the best but they are too expensive to get it in Canada. So is how is Falken compare to P-Zero Nero, T1-R, ES100?

I know of some people having issues trying to get them to balance. The ES100s are decent for the money and so are the Avon Tech M500s.

Falken is good in the dry, terrible in the wet. Surprisingly, this can be generalized over almost the entire falken range......

i can only speak to the falken azenis rt-615, which is spectacular. as close to an r-compound as you'll find. very good wet grip (excluding standing water), exceptional dry grip, ~15k mile lifespan. i've been through 2 sets (on a miata), and see no reason to switch.

I am looking for quiet + preformace and not too deep! I never try any R-compound tire but I assume they are not feasible for everyday street use. And even I have deadicate winter tire but I still dun want to need 10 min to warm up the tire on Fall/Spring morning time of Toronto.

Have no idea about the Avon, so is it quiet? I have the sumitomo htrz2 now and I hate the noise of it that's why I want to scrap it. I have P-Zero Nero M&S on my bimmer and they are quiet & comfort but strange is the tire can corner well but not good on twisty road (always feel the car want to slip, I can go through twisty in more higher speed on my TSX with sumitomo). So I want something in between.

The Tech M500s are a great tire, I put just put over 600 miles on them this weekend and I must say that I'm very impressed with them. They are much quieter than the stocks and give the car a much sportier feel.

My brother put the M500's on his '99 Accord (with 17" rims) and he raves about them. They're quiet and grip like mad, he says. He's used to all-season Goodyears, so bear that in mind, but he loves the Avons.

I have the M550s and, while they aren't summer tires, they provide excellent dry handling and exceptional wet handling/braking/traction. They're pretty good in snow, too.

I've read good things about the Falken RT-615s and the Kumho MX's, in terms of inexpensive summer tires. Check out Tire Rack.

RT-615, ES100 etc. have too short of a tread-life IMO, I wouldn't put those on my car no matter how good the performance is.

Falken Ziex 512 is a very good all-season IMO, good in dry, wet and snow, quiet and good tread.

Have Avon 550 on my wife's car and she loves them, decent grip, quiet, doesn't tramline

I have P Zero Nero's on my car right now, and they're pretty good but I'll probably go w/ Avon 550's for my next tire

i happened to look at my tires today and noticed they were a little too worn. I've been 35k so I figure that's fine. I'm also considering the Bridgestone Potenzas and Avon Tech M550's. also on the list are the Yokohama AVID V4S.

I'm curious to know about the milage people are getting out of these tires especially the yoks.

Toyo

Toyo Proxes 4 is best tire I've have had so far. At first they were
a little slippy in the wet but that went away with breakin.

Fuzion excellent but didn't wear long enough. Pzero was noisy
on the rear of the TSX and our '04 accord but otherwise performed well.
Just not a happy frequency for this chassis.

I have T 1-R's and they are awesome. They have great grip on dry roads which made cornering so much better for my TSX. The tires are quieter than the stock oem tires....this really surprised me. Plus, it is less expensive than the the PS2 or G3-D3. They also look great with my rims!

I push my ES100s a little everyday. I definitely didn't buy them b/c they would last forever. I'd say if you get 10k-15k miles or more out of the ES100s, then you've got about all the value you're going to get out of them. I even rotate my tires across axles so I get the maximum life out of them.

Note, I run winter and summer wheels (2x sets of OEM rims).

I'm pretty sure these or the Kumho ECSTA MX's are going on when the ES100s run out.

I used to have the Supra 712 to replace Toyo T1S on my lude couple years ago and I found the Kumho worn out so fast, it became very noisy after 5000km. I think I am going to give Avon a try.

Ian, the Fuzion ZRi's are a good bang for the buck tire. They go for about $170CAD.

The Kumho's that Moda mention are $113 and the Dunlops mentioned are $163.

Avon's are $159.

I'm swaying in the direction of the Avons as well for next summer.

A co-worker has the ES100s on his TSX and he swears by them. I'm going to put them on my summer wheels this year. Make sure you do the research on the tires and I think you will find the Techs come out on top...Good luck

I have the Yokohama ES100's in size 235/40/18 and I have over 35,000 miles on them and one track event under its belt and I drive hard everyday!

It surprises me each time when I hear that you guys only get about 10,000-20,000 miles out of them.

Well, to tell you the truth, I only expected 25,000 miles from them before I got them. But my experience with these tires has been great! There was a noticable increase in noise, but it wasn't that much. I was actually hesitant to buy these tires after reading reviews about them on Tire Rack, but I decided to give them a try anyway.

With my experience with these tires, I would not hesitate to buy another set.....depending on money anyway

so what do you guys think its the best one out of these three:

- Avon M550 A/S
- Kumho ASX
- Toyo Proxes4

price for toyo is a bit high-end, but compared to ride, handling, quietness,etc... what will be the best? obviously tirerack rated avon the best "ultra high performance all season."

I do know that the Toyo's get very hard about 40-50% through their life. Why no Yokohama Avid V4S? They have a 225/50 17 and although it isn't ultra high performance all-season, I'm not sure that is a bad thing.

Well, my rear set of ES100s do have about 15-20k miles on them and there is tread left, but I've found the rain traction has definitely decreased and I'm not going to challenge the life of them too much longer. I figure I have about 5k more miles to put on them and we're back into winter tires. Then I'm going to switch over to the Avon Tech M500s. ES100s are nice tires, but the compound and tread design has been around for many years and there are better options for the same amount of money.

I had Michelin Pilot Sports 225/45/17 stock and after they were gone (70.000km) went with the Bridgestone Potenza Re050a's. They came out really well in multiple tiretests I read and must say I prefer them over the Michelin's... Grip levels in dry are great as well as in the wet but specially the road noise is less than the Pilot sports...

I havn't looked around TO yet for pricing. I got those prices from www.tiretrends.com. They are based in Vancouver so + shipping. I'm sure some looking around in TO can result in equal or better pricing.

I'd be interested to know how much those GY Fierce go for and if they come in a 215/50/17.

So I've been running Yokohama AVID V4S for about 10k now

The Tire is excellent. Low noise and passed every pot hole that I've ran over. No problems with the tire. The OEM (Michellins) such with pot holes. I've had two tires bubble up from small pot holes at < 30 miles per hour and it cost almost twice as much as the Yokohama AVID V4S. The Yoko is also sticky'er. At first I was getting less miles per hour with the Yoko's, but now I am getting the same or better than the Michellins. So there is no real difference between the MPH on both tires.

the Yokohama AVID V4S is a set i'm considering.

some other options people have recommended me include:

Sumitomo HTR+ ultra high performance all-season
Nitto Neo Gen

anyone have experiences with either 2 i've mentioned?

you guys are making this a hard decision....I am undecided between:
- Avon Tech M550 A/S : $104
- Kumho ECSTA ASX : $87
- Yokohama AVID V4S : $110
- Continental ContiExtremeContact : $117
- Sumitomo HTR+ : $74 <----this one a CL Type owner recommended

Should I stick with the 215/50 or go with the 225/45 on the OEM rims?

It depends on what your looking for the tire to do...We put the V4's on the wifes Accord and I put the Avon's on the TSX. The Avons are a "Ultra High Performance All-Season" and you can tell during hard hard cornering and driving, as opposed to the V4's have a better tread wear and less performance(but still a great tire)..And yes do stay with the 215/50,

hey just get Ecsta asx they are having 40 dollars rebate when you buy 4
so it's like 77 per tire can't beat that

Anyone have the Kuhmos? The only thing I am worried about is that they won't last too long.

I am looking to get longevity with some performance upgrade to them. Before you start to flame me for that statement, I would like to add that I know you have to trade one for the other. Longevity is the only reason I didn't swap out the crappy michelins right off the bat.....they have got 53k miles on them and are still ok for another few thousand miles.

So, which one is going to be the best balance of tread wear and performance? (I drive about 25k miles a year and would prefer not to buy new tires every year.)

I see the UTGA rating for the Avons, Kumhos, and the Yoko are 360, 420, 500AA respectively.

I have Kumho & Summitomo on my cars and I won't recommend them at all!
Both are noisy as hell and Kumho is very easy to get hump even they willing to replace it under warranty but I rather have something that worry free instead of good warranty services.
