tirerack best prices for tires?

So I'm looking at buying the Continental Extreme DWS tires for my 2005 Acura TSX and they are $119.00 on tirerack and $139.00 at my local discount tires. It cost around $80 to ship the tires from tirerack.com

I'll probably end up going with the discount tire pricing because tirerack is on backorder. I did make an online offer to discount tire to see if they would beat that price. I'll find out on monday.

Question: Is tirerack.com really the best place to buy tires (for the most part that is)? Seems like shipping costs really kill the deal...

thanks for any input!

For some tires it is, for some the shipping makes it more expensive. Remember you also have to find a place to mount and balance them if you have them shipped to you from tirerack.

Your question is a good one, though I suspect the answer in not clear cut. For instance, if someone lives in the middle of nowhere, their resources are most likely quite limited and there's little doubt that Tire Rack would be good option. But if you were in an urban area, you would have more choices. As far as shipping goes, $80 seems very high to ship. I've always found Tire Rack to be very reasonable with their shipping cost (to the point where I've wondered how they do it). So.... you decide what's the better deal.

FYI... discount tire is most likely on backorder too even if they say it's in stock. I found that out when I ordered the same type of tire for my Audi. The discount tire rep told me those tires are on national backorder and it might be a couple of months before they came in. It could be worth a phone call to inquire before you place an order so you don't have to wait for a refund if necessary.

i got the same at onlinetires.com and had them shipped.....then waited..and waited....then I called them. So 10 days after the order was made, they said....oh, it is on back order! Well why don't you let me know instead of me waiting for nothing, thanks suckers, how about you just cancel the order then.

So onlinetires.com was cheaper than tirerack.com. Shipping was cheaper too...if they would only tell you when an order is on back order or not. So tirerack has a better service, but they are not the cheapest....in the mean time i haven't found anyone online that had the conti DWS!!

I ordered my winters from tire rack and saved about $300...that's with $120 shipping and $45 brokerage fees. REally a great deal if you order from Canada.

Tirerack does have good prices, but you can find tires a bit cheaper if you do some searching.

I got these tires when they came out about 2 months ago and they are supposedly still on back order? Dam! All I can say is that its the best tires Ive bought compared to what I used to roll on old yoko es300 and yoko s-drives. Continental extreme contacts I would buy again and they come with a 40000 mile warranty!

Got the DWS about 3 weeks ago from my local discount tires. The prices on the tires with replacement warrenty from DT and TR were withen $20 so i went with DT and had the tires in 3days. I was told at the time that the DWS were on national backorder but my sales guy did some magic and found a set somewhere at one the DT in california and shipped them in for me.

I put these on my Scion tC before I sold it for the TL-S and they are GREAT tires! Outstanding traction, great ride, quiet, and a very unique tread pattern. When it comes time put tires on the TL, I'll definitely be going with the Conti DWS.
