Tire Rack says: 235/40-18 on 45mm offset will rub

I was all set to get 235/40-18 tires with Nakayama Vador 5, and I asked in the Tire Rack forum on ToV to make sure:

http://www.vtec.net/forums/one-messa...ge%5fid=256219

This is what they said:
Keep in mind that whether or not you have rubbing depends on a number factors such as suspension modifications, road conditions, aftermarket wheel offset and amount of load the vehicle is carrying (EG vehicle does not rub with just the driver but rubs with people in the back seat). So we will be a little conservative in our recommendations to avoid any rubbing.

If you want to run a size that's a little bigger than what we've test fit, we can offer it to you as a "custom fit."

A custom fit is size or part that you can test fit but not drive on. If it turns out the part is not compatible then within 30 days you can call us and request an RA# to return for credit less freight.

The largest "custom" size we'd recommend for the TSX would be 225/40-18, based on what we've test 235/40-18 on 45mm offset will rub.
Ok so what's the deal people? Does 235/40-18 fit only when you have skinny people in the car? When you don't have stuff in the trunk?

Can someone confirm that they had a few cases of beer in the trunk and a couple of chubby friends in the back, and it didn't rub?

I had 235/40-18's on a 7.5" +48mm offset rim (slightly different).

No suspension mods. I had me, 215 pounds, a 360 pounder, a 230 pounder, and a 170 pounder in the car, with a full tank of gas, and about 50 pounds of extra crap in the trunk.

No rubbing.

Also note that I exceeded the maximum weight allowance for the car as well.

Wow. Ok, I guess that's a good test.

The wheel I want to get is 7.5" wide, with 45 mm offset it shouldn't be much different from yours.

I don't see how they will rub for a +45 offset when the H&R TSX has BBS RS-GT 19X8 rims have a + 40 offset. They claim they had no rubbing on their car which is lowered with the H&R Sport Springs.

Lung Fu Mo Shi (6 posts above ^^^^) is running 235/40/18 on 18/7.5 +48 rims. +45 would stick out 3mm more so use your imagination.

that one you linked volks TE37 18s looks horrible without drop and 4x4 sticking out. I'm thinking about going with a-spec suspension with 18s.

Sorry but you asked...

They looked flush to me but anything over +50 offset is tough to find.

LOL. That was mine dick. HAHA.

I was going to drop it with a ProKit, but plans changed and I sold the car. That picture is also of it sitting on a hill, raising the driver's side.

And the back wheels didn't stick out at all. They were still tucked in underneath the fender.
