Tein Basic Install

I have had a new set of tein basics for my 06 TSX sitting in my garage for a couple months now and i'm still deciding what to do about the install. I am 18 and don't feel comfortable with doing it myself because I don't have access to anything but a jack and jack stands really. I called an alignment shop and was quoted nearly $650 for the installation of the basics with the ingalls for the rear which I thought was a joke after seeing that people had their install done for only a couple hundred. So I was wondering if anyone had suggestions to specific places to have it done that won't charge as much or if anyone in the area had tools to help me out because I could always pay that way. I live in washington state if that helps.

I just feel that the installation would be somewhat difficult for me. I managed the RSB but that doesn't say much at all haha

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

The price does seem high, though I paid $500 to have my Koni yellows installed almost 3 years ago (although replacing just the shocks is more labor than replacing the whole spring/strut unit). Perhaps you could check the Tire Rack's installer database. That would provide you with a list of qualified shops in your area and you could call around for an estimate.

Seems like a real good price. In my case though, since the job involves some pretty serious suspension removal, plus the back seat, I didn't want to take a chance on just any shop doing the work. I didn't want rattles down the road, or loose fasteners, or taking a chance on the interior getting screwed up. I know I paid top dollar, but that was almost 3 years and 60K miles ago. I haven't had any trouble with any part of the job and continue to use the shop for tire and alignment work (and consider it a find). I know allot more about the car now, and did the Ingalls kit myself. If I was replacing the shocks and springs as a unit, I'd do that myself too (though I'd still farm out just a shock job; there's no part of me that wants to remove and replace 4 springs and all the parts that go with it). Money wasn't (and isn't) really an issue for me, but I certainly understand the desire to have it as economically as possible.

I got a quote for 650 to install/set up coil-overs. This included full installation with transfer of OEM upper mounts, ride height adjustment, corner balancing and alignment. Another hour of labor to install the camber kit on top of that.

You're making some major changes to the suspension system. It will be $ to get it set up right.

You can get a spare set of upper mounts for $100 from oem acura parts (you have to piece it together) and that could save the install labor of disassembling the oem suspension, plus keep you with a full set of backup parts.

looks like your in tacoma my bad didn't see that but axom motorports usually does honda/ acura engine swaps so they would be experienced with our cars. I did the install my self and at the time i was 18 (now 19) install isn't bad at all and interior is extremely simple

Dude, Marcus (HeelToe) charged me 300 for neuspeed super cup kit (this includes transferring of top hats), rsb, and camber kit install.

500-650 is ridiculous.

the install is pretty simple but with the tein basics you need to use the oem top hats which means you need a spring compressor (can rent for less than 15 bucks). other than removing the rear seat ( to access the rear strut) the install is straight forward...remove and replace

you remove the rear seat temporarily to access the rear shock (the bolts at the top of the coilover)-- for the most part swapping out suspension to a coilover is relatively simple and can be done if you have patience and basic diy abilities

first time may take a while longer so if you plan to do it, set aside a few hours on a weekend. check out install guides and read it over to make sure you have the tools you need. sucks when you have no car and have to call someone to take you out to the local parts store.

but if you're really uncomfortable with it, definitely shop around some more. $650 is way expensive, IMO... even if they include the alignment.
