I doubt the helper springs are worth the extra 200+.

a picture is worth a thousand words... but since I don't have a pic. basically a helper spring is a 2nd spring besides the main one. it has a very low spring rate, and is used to keep the main spring place when the shock/strut is fully extended. w/o a helper spring, during full extension, the main spring can become loose and move around. during compression, it might be in the wrong place, causing poor performance, noises, etc.

i don't think you'd actually benefit from the helper spring much unless you were going over sand dunes or something

I do not think you need the helper spring for regular street use. IMO, it is more of a marketing gimmick.

From Tanabe
"Helper springs assist with rebound stability, ride comfort and keep the main coil spring seated. Preload of the main spring can also be set to zero, for maximum comfort and suspension travel."

Xizor explained the function of the helper spring well and it is the main difference between the Type I and the Type II. The Type I has the helper spring. Helper springs basically assist with rebound stability, ride comfort and keep the main coil spring seated. The Type I also has a slightly shorter spring than the Type II.

If you need either or let me know. I am an Official Vendor for Acurazine and a direct Tanabe dealer.
