Springs v. Coilovers
I just got my TSX 4 days ago with the OEM bodykit and I love it. I still think it looks a little to 4x4ish and want to drop it an inch at least. Ive been reading through this forum for a few days and I cant decide whether its better to get a new full coilover kit (Tein Basics) or just get lowering springs for now and when the shocks are gone just upgrade to the Tein's. Any suggestions?

Why pay for install labor twice? With coilovers you can adjust the ride height and you will always have a set of good shocks left over in the garage. If you get springs you will eventually blow out your shocks.
Coilovers= pay for install once, adjustable ride hieght, have good back up shocks
Springs= you buy springs, 1 set ride hieght, blow out your shocks, buy coilovers, pay to have them put in.
If you plan on getting coilovers in the future just do it now!

I agree I mean if youre planning on just getting springs right now and then when it comes time to replace the struts you totally switch to coilovers than I think thats a waste of money. Just buy the coilovers in the first place. Or keep the springs and just replace the struts when you need to.

I think it all depends on your preference. Coilovers are naturally a bit stiffer than most aftermarket Shock/Spring combos because they are more geared towards racing and performance. My preference was not performance geared...I wanted to maintain as close to stock ride quality while reducing the majority of my wheel gap.
I installed the following in my car:
Koni Neuspeed Shocks
Comptech 110-155 Springs
It ran me $800.00 and a additional $130.00 for an Ingalls Rear Camber Kit.
I am very very pleased with the ride quality and the way it sits now.

Just my oopinion, Tein, SS i beleive can be order with a lower set of spring rates. Look at their site, and notice the maximum/min load for spring.
And tanabe has some really soft coilovers for those that deosnt want a stiff. Though, tanabe spring rates seems still stiffer, i bet it probably wont ride that much stiffer.
I am running 8K f, 4K r, and is firm, but i wouldnt say stiff.

What settings are you using on that set-up? I'm considering doing the same upgrade to reduce the wheel gap. I drive my TSX 500k-800k a week so I want the ride to be similar to stock also. Thanks.

Do you have a MT or AT? AlterZgo has an AT with the same setup and his are now set to 4. If you don't already know, the AT's sit a little lower than MT's.
Here are some pics of what his car looks like! Before he put his rims on, the spring perch was set to 4 in the front and 3 in the back.
He has now lowered the spring perch to 4 all the way around as I stated earlier.

FYI...It may not be as easy or versatile as coilovers, but the Neuspeed Koni/Combo offers ride height adjustability also~

yea after some research ive decided on the koni/neuspeed sport springs with an ingalls rear camber kit. that seems to be the best fit for my situation (money mostly) and because the car is a week old to the day

very true. thanks for the advise. by the way i forgot to add wants the estimated install time for the koni/springs/camber kit? full weekend or saturday?

I have a side question here...for you guys with coilovers how often do you actually adjust the ride height. It seems like it just a feature thats nice to say you have. Do most people actually adjust them more than once?

I played around with height a lot during the install of my Tein FLEX coilovers and the the first couple of weeks after. Wanted to get it even front and rear, which you can't always achieve with a strut/spring combo. Haven't touched it since. The Koni gives enough range to even it out though.
Changing is pretty easy; jack it up and use the supplied spanner wrench to spin the locknut loose, then spin the perch up or down. Five minutes a corner maybe.....
It's nice to have the adjustment if you plan on running different size tires; for example, switching to a 225/40/18 for summer use, you can drop it a little to compensate for the smaller tire.
