Speed and Mileage Difference w/ 16" vs. 17"

I, as many of us in cold climates do, put a set of winter wheels on our TSX's a few months out of the year. My wheels are 16" steelies vs. the 17" stock alloys. Since the car's speedometer and odometer are calibrated assuming the 17" wheels, how much of a difference in speed and mileage would having the 16"'s on instead have overall?

I have a feeling it's probably not that much, like when the speedometer reads 65 MPH I assume I'm going like 62. Or is it more impactful than that?

Just thought I'd see if anyone knew -

Thanks...

This will depend on the tire that you put on the 16" wheel. The speedometer and odometer are calibrated based on the overall circumference of the wheel and tire package.

If you go to google and search for wheel tire size calculator, then look for the one on the miata board, you can easily see what the difference will be in the overall circumference between the two wheel and tire packages.

If you're going for 16" steelies, go for a 205/60/16 tire and you'll be within 1% of the original 17" size.
