Potential Flat Spotting

I have noticed that my tires/wheels vibrate on very smooth road surfaces, particularly on cold mornings. It does go away after a while. Asked the dealer to look at it, but they could not notice it. Yeah...

Anyway, if I can indeed prove to them that the tires are "defective" would they be required to replace them under warranty?

Also, are 17 inch tires more susceptible to this than smaller tires?

Thanks guys.

If it goes away when the tire is warm then I wouldn't say there's any reason for concern. What tire pressure are you running?

How cold are we talking about here? And what tire pressure are you running at?

Are you still on the stock tires? If so, I've never heard this one before. Check your tire pressures (32 front/30 rear) when your tires are still cold in the morning (before you go on your commute). Give it another couple morning's tests to see after that. I've only really heard this on the 04-05 TLs, being that they have tires that do not have steel belts. Instead, they have silicone belting which, when cold, will overlap when at rest. As heat decipates, the belting will expand and then meet properly.

Once again, this experience will not occur in the stock TSX tires, as it has steel belts.

If this continues after rechecking your pressures, my other concern would be your tire balancing. Have you done this appropriately? If a tire comes out of balance, which they will over time, heat decipation can slightly relieve the sensation on a temporary basis. The only true cause is to balance the tire.

Give us an update after you test this out step-by-step.

I guess the first thing to get is a tire pressure measuring thing-a-ma-jiggy. But, this has been happening even after my last oil change, which was about two months ago. [They checked and adjusted tire pressure, I assume to normal spec]

CG: The vibrating/wabbling sensation is always there at start-up, but I really noticed it one very cold morning (~20F). The car was hoppin a bit.

Kurt: I will get them balanced and see if that works.

Thanks for the info, guys.

hmm I havent heard anything on the stock TSX michelin tires having this issue. The only Acura having this issue is the 04 TL 5A with Bridgestone EL42 stockers 17". That's why the 05 TL come with Michelins as well I believe.
