NOISE Problems with my TEIN Basic Help!!
NOISE Problems with my TEIN Basic Help!!
I took my car to a local shop to have my teins install, I was there the whole time during the installation and everything look good a solid after putting the supension mount and everything back in place.. yet.. when I drove my car home i could hear very small rattles coming from all sides.. ? I was like WTF? the suspension feels very nice and it seems to me that it's working like it supposed to.. cornering is awesome with these... but again I hear little rattles sometimes and that can not be good.. my local shop is willing to take a look at the supension again this Saturday .. to see if they miss anything ..
Is there anything guys that you suggest that I should look for when they raise my car again??
PLEASE HELP!!!
Thank you
Delmiro

I had some rattling occur when I installed my eibach's. However, mine was only coming from the rear. I think the aftermarket springs may have a slightly smaller diameter which causes them to shift a little in the assembly. I didn't actually find a fix for it, but getting the comptech rear sway bar seemed stop it.
I really don't think that is causing the small rattles .. I have comptech sway bar installed .. and I still hear small rattles.. I don't know where in the suspension they're coming from .. ( I KNOW from the coilovers but WHERE???)

The factory springs and some aftermarket springs come with the insulating tubing over a few coils to eliminate noise. I'm not sure if the Tein Basic has it, but I know the Flex doesn't. I'm planning to use wiring heat shrink tubing on the coils, and hoping it will eliminate one potential source of noise problem.

I think I might go to the home depot and get some of that clear tubin.. and put in around the spring .. we'll see

For those like slobeatz who are not using coilovers, you should also use things like the stock dust boots and the stock rubber gasket on the spring seat to prevent metal on metal contact.
The Eibach Prokits I got have clear rubberish tubing hugging the top of the springs. First I thought they were there to prevent hard bottoming out, or to prevent metal hitting metal too hard. Now I know what they're actually for. They are actually on the top portion of the whole coilover spring. No rattles at all coming from all 4 suspensions.

It was not split along the length of the loom, but was cut in a tight spiral manner that, when applied to the spring coil, would easily stay in place. This stuff was a good 1/16" or so thick so it has held up very well over time and prevents any noise that comes from spring on spring contact. I bought it from Radioshack, but i can't seem to find the link to the product now.

As you can see, since it's split in a perpendicular spiral, rather than a parallel cut along the length of the tube, once you wrap it around the spring coil, it's not coming off. Additonally, this material doesn't feel like the regular cable management soft plastic. This stuff feels like a minature plastic ABS pipe, so it's very durable and has withstood 3 yrs of pounding in my brother's car w/no problems.
i have the tein coilovers i just put in and i dont have any rattles at all on mine . I put them in my self i used the stock spring isolator thing that sits on top of the gold plate tein gives u with the kit for the front .I think heat shrink stuff will work pretty good if u cant stop the rattle from ur spring to ur coilover hat

the only problem i see on mine after a week or so of driving it seems that the shocks in the rear make a noise like it bottoms out its not a rattle at all its more of a thudd noise ,david

Btw, I didn't have to use any insulating tubing at all.

I guess if that wrap around the coil trick works, that would be ok, but I would hate to have to band-aid something I just bought brand new

Hmmmm, IMO to get the springs to bind you must have the car's suspension right up on the bumpstops. Of course progressive springs bind earlier. If he only drove home gently and got rattles, Its probably something else. Something he sorted by a reinstallation rather than the tubings, which is not a bad idea anyway. Possibly the bushings or that the springs were not well seated.
