need help buying rims - are 20's safe on tsx?
hey tsxondubs, i think your car is phat as hell, absolutely sick man, love what you've done with it! i'm actually in the process of putting rims on my tsx now and i just have a few questions for you or anyone else out there if u don't mind. i'm not one of those hardcore dudes that goes all out when it comes to customizing cars, basically i just want it to look nice and appealing to the human eye from the outside if u know what i mean, so i don't really know anything about all the technical aspects and stuff so you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge on this subject...but anyways i went to the shop yesterday and the guy told me that my car would support a 225-35-20 and that's a 20 x 7.5
couple of questions:
do the tires ever rub on the under surface of the fender, i'm not really sure, i guess you call it the wheel-well? especially after you hit a bump or unexpected pot-hole or something? does it scrape or rub or grind or anything like that?
i went to the acura dealership and the salesman said that he all he could tell me is that he doesn't recommend anything over the stock 17 inch (ofcourse he's gonna say that) b/c it'll mess up the ??? chassy or suspension or something of that nature. what's your take on that? i don't plan on changing the shocks or springs or anything like that, just some simple dubs on some low-pros, ghetto fabulous. do you think it'll mess up my car any if i change just the rims and tires without messing with anything else? especially the suspension of the car?
do you think it would be safe to go with a 225-30-20 as opposed to a
225-35-20? i found one tire and rim website online that said it would support the 225-30-20 but most of the sites recommend 19 inch rims (hard to find sites online that recommend dubs on a tsx) and a couple of them said it could fit a 225-35-20 like your car.
lastly, what about the actual rim size - the guy tried to sell me a 20 x 7.5. is that the max the tsx will support or can i get a 20 x 8.5 or 20 x 9? or if i end up getting a 19 inch rim (which i really don't want) can i get 19 x 8.5 or anything higher. as you can tell, i'm really confused and clueless when it comes to all this stuff. i feel ike i'm playing russian roulette and fear that if i get the wrong dimensions of either the tires or rims, then my car will just fall apart one day.
i would really appreciate any help you might be able to provide me, sorry for such a lenghty msg. man, take it easy. cackalack

wow....20's?i know there are people that have done it.....too big for my taste....but i'm sure the 20 x 7.5 is gonna fit with the right offset.as for not putting springs or coilovers, that your car will look like a 4x4 in my opinion....just my opinion....

if you put rims on the car larger than stocker your car is literally going to look like a 4x4 man. you have to lower the car to make it look like. the car i think looks like a 4x4 when its stock.
