Looking into wheels
hey guys;
I have been browsing for the perfect wheel for both me, the TSX, and Chicago's terrain. I am not going to buy any time soon, but have been looking anyway. After hearing about edgeracing.com and the amazing deals there, I spotted some great wheels for my situation. I am looking for lower profile tires and less wheel gap. I also know the car will need some lowering, so some Comptech Sport Springs are also in the picture (1.6" F, 1.4" R drop). I would like 18" wheels with a profile of 40, maybe 35. Here are some candidates;
Falken Wheel Circuit Spec (gun Metal)
18x7, 5x114.3, 26.5lbs. pic
i hear, however, that a 7" width would not look good on 18" wheels. they also sell it in 19x7.5, but its too much of a price difference for me.
Falken Wheel Torque 5 (gun Metal)
18x8, 5x114.3, 25.8lbs. pic
these are for the TL, but are the same price and look like they'd be nice. Would there be an issue with rubbing or the wheel sticking out?
Keep in mind, I am willing to drop the car. Also, this is all just contemplation, the stock rims are in fine condition as is .
Oh, 1 more thing, can 18x8 rims fit the TSX? I think it'd help my search a little more. (Man, I want those Circuit Specs, but they seem too narrow for 18s.) Thanks
here's a link to the site. the TSX rims are available if you switch TL for TSX of course.link

^ thanks. I like the rims, but they seem too small and the tire too thick in profile for my tastes. I think if I were to lower the car it'd look better. Are those 17s?
Also, about lowering, would I need to go with the full suspension upgrade or just Comptech Sport Springs? I read about some struts blowing due to lowering on the site.

and you can lower w/ springs, but your shock will wear out quicker. I've had a pro kit for a year and my shocks aren't blown

You'd need to find out the "offset" for both those rims you're looking at. With the 18x8, you probably would not want anything lower than 42mm offset. While with the 18x7.5 rims, you may do anything above 40mm offset. Then again like what Xizor said, don't go with 35 series tires cuz they'll be too skinny imo and you'd need to drop the car majorly to close the wheel gap. The lower offset you go with, the more the rims/tires will stick out. I've got 225/40/18 on 18x7.5 and the tires are not very fat when you look at it, actually it's skinny. Unless you drop your car aggressively like 2"+ then you shouldnt have any rubbing issues. I had 17x8 45 offset rims with 235/45/17 and dropped on Eibach Prokit springs, no rubbing at all, in fact, there were plenty of space between the wheel and the innner wheel well.
If you drop your car on aftermarket springs, you're putting a significant amount of stress on the stock shocks, and they will eventually wear out and need to be replaced (how long the shocks will last you will depend on how you drive and the surface you drive on). Full coilover systems offer you the convenience to adjust both ride height and ride comfort but they're usually very expensive at $1,000+. If you go with aftermarket springs and shocks separately, you're look at around $700-800, and there are quite a few to choose from if you do a quick search. Ex: A-Spec, Eibach Prokit/Koni Shocks or Pro-Dampeners, or Comtech Springs/Koni Shocks or Pro-Dampeners. Koni shocks are adjustable while Pro-Dampeners aren't.

How about these;
Flik Wasp (black)
Size: 18x7.5
PCD: 5x114.3
ET: 42
Weight: 22lbs.
pic
-matched with Falken Ziex Ze-512 (225/40R18, UHPAS)
OR (although it might make the brakes look even smaller)
Flik Lex
Size: 18x8
PCD: 5x114.3
ET: 42
Weight: 21.5lbs
pic
-matched to the same tire.
Would an offset of 40 be acceptable on this car? That is really what I'm aiming for. Also, to set the drop, what would be the most economical (without sacrificing ANY safety) be, coilovers? Man, this stuff is so expensive .

I want to see the 5Zigen Heidfeld on a TSX. 20lbs isn't bad for these badboys for that price.

First off, welcome to AZine.
Re: your choice wheel - your center bore is too big. Our center bore is 64.1. You'll need a hubcentric ring. Also, you may have some issues with that offset of 40+.
