lighter rims

Hey guys i am thinking of getting a stronger and lighter rims for the 05 TSX. The one i was looking at is the Kosei K1 TS for the 17x7, weighted at 13.7lbs each and cost is 199.00. My question is what is the factory wheel off set on the TSX? On this wheel it is +50mm...is that good or bad? Thank you in advance...

The factory offset is +55. The +50mm on the Kosei will work just fine and look a little better by moving the wheel toward the outside by 5mm.

I also have the 17" Kosei K1 TS. I weighed them before mounting and they came in at 14 lbs. I think they look pretty good, and with the Toyo T1-R tires, I believe I'm saving about 12-13 lbs per wheel, compared to stock (34 lbs vs 47 lbs). The only problem I have with them is the center caps they came with - ugly plastic. I'm trying to get new caps machined, but my local friendly machine shop is pretty busy right now. When I gets the parts done, I'll post some pic's.

I'm thinking I might have the caps anodized medium gray and then laser etch the Acura logo on top.

Not really. However, you can get some rim protection by running a wider tire on a narrower rim. For instance, running 235-40-18s on an 18x7.5" rim will provide greater rim protection. Also, most rims now come with a rim protector bead molded into the sidewall. However, this bead is not too effective if you are running a narrower tire on a wide rim - like say a 225-40=18 on an 18x8" rim.

The car would look a lot better lowered with those wheels. It now looks kind of lifted...

you might want to blur out your license plate. Looks good, though. I plan on going with the same size due to weight savings. I'm getting the A-spec suspension 1st.

As long as the circumference of your tire didn't change, which yours did not, your speedo and such will work fine. Lowering does not affect that. If you don't want to worry about camber, selecting parts, etc. then go for the A-spec suspension. Made by Acura for our car, it is a matched system, the most simple suspension upgrade to maintain near-stock ride quality while improving looks and handling.

Those rims are great, I was thinking of getting a set myself at one point. I think they'd look even better with a small drop though.

Gram Lights are, I think I saw, 13lbs. This is the 57pro, not sure on pricing though, I would guess between 300-400 a piece. And like most things Rays, are a bitch to get a hold of. These look almost identical to my G-games Wolf's, cept their 4 lbs lighter and 2-piece.

I plan to lower with koni yellow and ground control after my header. I'm still waiting for reviews or examples of different spring rates. The realtime guys released spring rates for their ITR after it retired. I'm wondering if they're using the sames rates as the old itr, I think it was 1000lbs front and 1300lbs rear... forgot now but a 1:1.3 ratio. Any suggestions on good rate setup? one i've gotten so far is make 400lbs front and 500lbs rear...

How much faster does your car feel? That's a sh@t load of weight loss. Over 40 lbs at least.

It's unsprung weight too. A general rule of thumb is that shaving 1 pound of unsprung mass off is like removing 10 pounds of sprung mass. The equivalent mass reduction of 400 lb would put us down into RSX territory, only with a TSX drivetrain and power plant.

That's why I'm so impressed. Although I've heard 1 lb = 5, 7, or 10 from various sources. I wonder which one is most accurate.

The car certainly seems quicker, but I never timed a 1/4 mile before (or after...yet). I'm sure part of the quickness comes from the new T1-R's as well. One of the other main reasons I went for low weight is that the lower unsprung weight makes the car more confortable as bumps on the road have less of an effect (that's what I told my wife anyway).

I think I really need a Comptech rear sway and some A-spec shocks/springs now.

Although I'm looking at some lightweight wheels, I'm worried that these styles (volk, gram lights, advan, rota, ,etc) might not fit the lines of our car. IMO, the best styles have been 18+ multi-piece styles.

I'm hoping not to compromise looks vs. performance and vise-versa.

I have a slightly used set of mercury silver VOLK CE28Ns 18X7.5 w/ +50 offset that weigh in at exactly 14.5 lbs each. Fully forged monoblock one piece wheels. If you're not familiar with these, here's exactly what they look like, same color too:

Lemme know if you guys are interested, I have pics I can e-mail you.

With my luck since I bought this bad boy, I need a forcefield around it.

Hey Drive4fun, your claim of 12-13 lbs caught my attention. What size Toyo T1-R are you running? I didn't see a 17" T-1R in either 215/50-17, 225/45-17, or 235/45-17 on the toyo website that weighed in at 20lbs or less. Their weights come in at 22, 23, and 25 lbs respectively. So looks to me like you're getting a max weight reduction per wheel of 11lbs. The only way you could lose 12-13 per corner would be going w/ 17" ce28n's or ssr comp's and using a stock size t1-r.

Not all gram lights are light however, most of the wheels are cast so they're 18lb+, the only ones that are that light are the Forged series which tirerack explains, I don't know if the 57pro is or not, they have a lot of different names.

You obviously havent seen the TSX's on here or in the gallery that have those rim types.

I have the G-games 77W's, as soon as I can get some pics now that its lowered, I'll post em...And actually, there are a few in the gallery that have g-games, and they look pretty damn good.

I think most 5 or 6 spokers look the best anyway. Anything past that and they start to look to "busy"

I love Volks. The ugly wheels IMO are chrome (ex. Iforged) or have too many spokes (BMW type).

You are correct. When I purchased my T1-R's, there was no weight spec published (that I could find) so I assumed they would be similiar to the T1-S (20.5 lbs). The Toyo website now lists the wieghts - 22 lbs for the 215 50R17. With the 14 lbs Kosei, the total is 36 lbs - about 11 lbs less than stock.

Also, the Toyo website also lists the T1-S at 22.9 lbs, so my initial information (from a tire vendor's site) was incorrect.

Agreed. Even some 6 spokers don't fit the lines of the TSX, unless you're into contrasting.

The pics with the g-games look pretty decent. However, I've noticed that all spoke styles tend to look smaller if they don't extend to the lip. For example, I have a set of multi-piece wheels on my Integra where the spoke only went 1/2" away from the lip and everyone thought they were 16" when they were actually 17".

I dont see that with my g-games since the lip is polished chrome. My issue is that I have a 225 instead of a 235 tire on them. 235 would have given a fuller look.

Again, I believe it depends on the lines of the car. The E46 M3 wheel is VERY nice despite having multiple spokes.

Joe - hope you're able to dig up some pics. How much is a decent price for 17 x 7? I got a quote yesterday for $382.50 ea on the gram lights 57pro. I have no idea if the g-games is less??
