Question Hub-centric wheels/rings? Huh?

I wanted to get those 13.5 lb. Centerline RPMs (17x7, 42mm offset) for $999 for 4, but then I stumbled across this:

The wheels on Hondas are located on the car via the hub and not the lugs.It is a more precise way of doing things but the downside is when one goes to an aftermarket wheel 99% of those manufacturers use the lugs to locate the wheel on the car. They compensate for tolerance inaccurasies with hub-centric rings.
To the best of my knowledge Centerline does not offer these rings even as an option for their wheels.
End result is an incurable vibration @ 45-65 mph which no balance machine can get out.
The cure is Genuine Honda wheels,Mugen ,or an aftermarket supplier that supports hub-centric rings for their line of product.
Whatever wheel you decide on ask this question 1st."Is the wheel hub-centric to my appilcation and if not are hub-centric rings avalable ?"
What the hell. Have you guys heard this? I didn't see any mention of it when perusing the various wheel threads here, and there was no mention of it in the wheel safety sticky.

edit: More to the point, I want a set of lightweight (13-13.5 lbs) 17" wheels and I don't want to break the bank. If not the Centerline RPMs, then what?

most of the aftermarket wheels needs hubcentric rings so they can be fitted to a variety of vehicles.

a wheel to look at is the Velox PG-5S if you dont want to "break the bank". www.veloxperformance.com Dont look at the MSRP, the street price is a lot less than that.

My only experience with aftermarket wheels is with my Golf. I bought Konig Verdict's and they too needed rings to fit. I noticed no problems with vibration whatsoever. The only thing I can recommend is that you retorque your wheel nuts after a couple of days of driving. The lightweight aluminum needs some time to settle and you'll probably find that the nuts will loosen a little bit.

I have a set of Enkei on my Civic which didn't come with hub rings. The vibration was very noticeable regardless how many times the wheels were balanced. The problem was finally solved when I got some Konig hub rings which match the Enkei wheels and the hub bore. Many tire/wheel shops told me hub rings were not necessary but I've proved them wrong.

Ah crap. As if it wasn't complicated enough as it is!

I think I'm giving up on wheels for now. I just can't justify the $1500-$2000 cost and complications of what I really want.

FWIW, best price I've found on those 12.5 lb Velox PG-5S wheels is $1,375 for 4. It's a little more than I was hoping to spend. Also, that shop's FAQ says they usually don't include hub-centric rings, so you have to email to ask if they're available, but the contact page gives a 404! Agh!

The Velox PG-Rev10 17x7 is supposedly 11.5 lbs, but I can't find any prices online except $1730 here.

Hub centric rings are like $20 for a set of four so it's not that big of a deal. They're usually made from a type of high strength nylon plastic.

And they're particular to the wheels (including the size), but not particular to cars, right?

Random tag-on question-- someone on another board said it was hard to find aftermarket wheels to fit stock tires. Would the Velox PG-5S not work with the stock tires?

anything from 7 to 7.5 width should fit the stock tires.

most shops that sells aftermarket wheels who also does mount and balance will have hubcentric rings. they come in many diff sizes, those shops will help you figure out what size you need.

IMO, I would stay away from the plastic ones. I've heard people reporting that the plastic ones would melt. I had plastic ones on my Racing Hart CP-035. They came with the wheels and specific for my Prelude. The rings didn't melt, but they cracked. The first 2 rings with crack were fine, I was still using them. But later, a 3rd ring cracked and this time, the ring cracked and turned into 2 thinner rings. That was the time I decided to go with aluminum rings.

The PG-Rev10 seem to come with a 4 bolt pattern... Look at the picture. I don't know if they are offered as 5 bolt pattern.

Also, remember the car is heavy. A lot of aftermarket wheels will bend fairly easilly.

Regards

Yeah, I asked about weight in the fitment thread. The Rev series supposedly supports 690 KG each (like 1520 lbs), and the PG-5S supports 620 KG each (like 1367 lbs). Is that not enough? What does the TSX require?

I decided I like the look of the 5-spoke Rev5 better than the 10-spoke Rev10 anyway. :P

So are hub rings kinda like a standard one size fits all for the outter diameter? (part that goes into the rim itself) though I completely understand the inner diameter (part that goes onto the hub of the car) is acura specific...

inner: 64.10mm i belive.

i'm going to have to pick up a set of these for my new Moda R6s that are on thier way, I was going to pick up the rings from ebay. Anyone have any opinions on these..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HUBCE...spagenameZWDVW

or even where to get rings cheaper?
