Unhappy Hub-Centric Ring - - - Help - - -

I recently just put on my VOLK GT-C's 18x8 on my 06 TSX.....after i get past 50 mph...my sterring wheels starts to shake horrbily. I am on Pzero Nero tires, so I know they are directional....I put the back wheels on the front and vice versa. The shaking is now minimal but annoying. I know there have been threads tryin to break down the problem...i read them. So basically this is more for rim specific:

a. what is another step to problem solve?
b. how can i get hubcentric rings that will fit these rims for an '06 tsx?

hub rings solves most all problems. just measure the inside of the wheel opening and the size of the hub. go to ebay and buy a set (or from tirerack/discount tire, they're more expensive but metal).

i'll prolly try rebalancing...see if that fixes it.

so hub rings aren't rim specific or car specific? never bought a pair for any of my previous cars with rims

hubrings are size specific, it consists of two sizes, one from the wheel and one from the car

if you read enough people say metal ones can rust and expand/contract due to heating. other people say poly ones can break/tear/melt etc. I think you're fine w/ either, rings are just there to center the wheel, not hold any load

I ran 5 years on my last set of poly hub rings.

I think it all depends on what they're made of. There are many forms of plastic, and I'm sure some resist heat better than others.

64.1mm

Most aftermarket wheels have a center bore of 73mm. My Volk GT-7's, Racing Hart CP-035's, and Spoon SW388's are all 73mm. So for the original poster, just buy a set of rings that have 73mm OD and 64.1mm ID. PM JoesTSX about the rings. He got me couple sets of rings already.

hey guys hubcentric rings are not needed. I never run them. But here is what you should do when putting on your wheels.

put the wheel on and keep it completly off the ground. Tighten all the lug nuts in a semi star pattern, get the lug nuts tight befor setting the car back down onto the ground. Once the car is on the make make your final run with the tq wrench.

doing this will get the wheels centered, on the hub and you will not need the hubcintric rings.

I realize that this topic has been dead for almost a full month now but I must say that that's bad advice. The process that you're referring to will make the wheels lugcentric to the car, not hubcentric. When the wheels are centered via lugcentric means, the wheel is solely relying on the lug studs/nuts to center it and to keep it centered. When the wheel is made hubcentric, the wheels rest upon the car's axle hubs, which, compared to lug studs, are noticeably stronger when it comes to absorbing impacts. I've run my OZ's with and without the hubcentric rings and regardless of how I tightened the lug nuts, when they don't have the rings, even with conical seat lug nuts, the vibrations at speed are pretty f'ing bad.

This site explains it better than I can in my tired & drunken state: http://www.moderntiredealer.com/t_in...t&storyID=1196

Beg to differ. I had the same wheel shake when I first got my Ggames. Got the rings soon after, no more wheel shake.
