Hankook Ice Bear 300s
Just an update. I purchased and installed a set of these (205 60R16) on steelies for $850 (everything incl). So far so good. They hold very well on ice and snow, have very little road noise. So much better than the all-seasons that I survived with last winter. We've had a wide range of winter conditions so far here in Ottawa - freezing rain, snow, slush, low temps etc. The tires are very competent in each of these conditions. They also work well from a standing start - no wheel spin at reasonable throttle engagement. I give them a thumbs up so far....

Well I am not the only one with Hankook snow tires now.... I purchased a set of 225/45 R17 Hankook W404s a studable winter tire. I wanted 17's because I found a set of new "stock" 17" acura rims on ebay for 350 USD. I didn't want to go down to 16's because I like the car on 17's better. Plus we don't get as much snow as Ottawa, but when I head into the mountains skiing it can get hairy. These were the least expensive 17 inch snows that had a speed rating higher than Q (this are t rated at 119mph). They handle good, obviously not as tight as the stock tires, but good enough. Road noise isn't bad, but I would rather have that than be in a ditch on the way sking. Anyways these tires are awesome so far... 141 a piece about $650 total with mounting and balancing (about 1,000 USD total rims and snows). We haven't had a big storm yet but I am waiting..... I saw your tires, but they were about 200 a piece in 17's.

I purchased a set Hankook W300 Ice Bear as well, but in 205-50-17. I paid approximately $640 shipped, and another 40 bucks to mount onto my stock rims.
So far, i haven't had a chance to test them in snow, but on dry pavement, the performance is comparable, if not better, than the stock all-season. i have not noticed any noise increase, as many people claimed about winter tires, but it is far too early to tell.
