Great tires for the TSX for the spring and summer

Alright,

I decided not to buy new rims. I am happy with my current stock rims, and I am looking to jsut get some better tires that I would use from April to October or so. Then I would just put the Michelin's back on during the winter.

I was looking at the Toyo Proxes 4, and might still go with them. I want something that will be exceptional both on dry and wet pavement. They also can not wear out after just one season of using them. Something that will last 30,000 miles at least. Some of my brother's ultra high performance tires for his 300ZX were great, but they would only last 12,000 to 15,000 miles.

Any good recommendations?

There are a number of good tires available, an how long a tire lasts really depends on how you use it.

Tires you should also consider include Kuhmo Ecsta 712, Kuhmo Ecsta MX, Toyo Proxes T1-S, Yokohama AVS ES100...uh, and there are more, but I can't think of them right now.

Anyhow, you get the point. Also, for a 3 season tire, I highly recommend a full summer performance tire instead of an all-seaon like the Proxes 4. Summer tires will have the best handling on dry pavement and often actually handle better than all seasons in the wet.

Try looking at the Fuzion ZRi's for a summer tire. I just had them put on my car and I love how they've improved overall handling and braking ability. They're also priced substantially lower than most other summer tires and have a slightly better treadwear rating than the stock michelins.

Ok, I agree with you on the summer tire. I just need to make sure if its a total summer performance tire, that it will have a long tread life and I won't have to replace it for 2-3 years at least.

I will look into some of the tires that were mentioned. Oh, and lookin for tires for $150 or less. I know the Toyo's are less that that.

I would try to stay away from the Kuhmo's as i've had bad experiences with them in the rain and they tend to be loud. I'm currently riding on a set of Proxe4's that i got pretty cheap from treaddepot.com and they've been excellent in the dry and wet. In November i was coming back from NYC in heavy downpour and the car was extremely stable even at 75 mph on the highway (granted i was in the WRX). They are also relatively smooth and quiet tires except on bad pavement. For the money these tires can't be beat.

Really? I've heard so much good things about the 712s. They are like the best bang for the buck. I myself is in the same position too. I'm not going to buy rims cause I can't afford them this year (gotta buy tools for new job) so I am planning to just buy tires.
The following is what I have in mind
Kumho 712s
Hankook Ventus H405
Falken Azenis ST-115
Dunlop SP Sport FM901
Any thoughts?

I have 712s and am not a big fan of them. They're simply ok, nothing to write home about, the only good thing I can say is they don't hydroplane. I hear the MXs are far superior to the 712.

Well, if you want a cost efficient tire, then go with the Falken Ziex 512s. I have them on my 16s for my Integra and they work great! I've only read positive reviews from people. You might want to consider them as an option. Nice handling, long tread wear, great price, what else can you ask for?

I agree with virtualbong, the falken ziex 512's have gotten great reviews along with the Proxe4's and pirelli Pzero Nero M+S, if you can find them in your size these tires can't be beat for All-seasons.

The Toyo Proxes T1-S is being replaced with the T1-R in about a month, so I would recommend waiting if you were considering the T1-S. The T1-R has been available in Canada and Europe for a few months, and supposedly they wear better, are quieter, and grip better in the wet compared to the T1-S. I hope they keep the same price and weight as the T1-S though.

I wouldn't count on the OEM Michelins as your winter tire. I got stuck in the ice many times last winter with the OEMs, but this winter I am running Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3s and I cut through snow and ice like nobody's business. Not to mention they grip far better on dry pavement!

Hmm...my solution for snow and ice is to just not drive...

I have been looking up prices and reviews on the new Toyo Proxes T1-R's, and it looks like they will be more expensive. They look awesome and sound like a good improvement over the old ones. Plus, they come in 215/50ZR17's with a 91Y weight load.

However, it is averaging around $200 to $225 for each tire.

I hope they come down a little bit when released in the States.

Alright, I think I am going to go with the Falken Ziex ZE-512 in 225/50R17 which I found for $98 each. The only other one I saw around the same price was the Nitto NT-450's which comes in 225/50R17's as well for $101 each. The Nitto's llok more aggressive, but the Falken's look like they will last longer.

Between these two, what would you get?

I have these for "winter" tires and they've been pretty good. Not too much noise, they're good enough in the snow (got stuck on a steep driveway though), and the dry grip is pretty good.

Stock size is 215/50R17
How would these sizes look on our rims?
215/50ZR17's
225/45/17's

I had big tires placed on a rim before not the tsx(eclipse)..but when I walk out to my car..
they look like dougnuts, bulging out past the rim..I told them to put stock sizes back on..
To werid looking..

The TSX stock wheels with over size tires..hmmm..
Does it effect speedo?
Is th car rised a bit, with over size tires? or lower?
Does it handle better? Look better??

What do you most of you get in tire size when you change out and keep the stock rim??

I was planning to get the Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S but they don't have them in 215/50 R17.
They only have that size on their website for the Pirelli P Zero Nero.
What's the difference?
