225/45/18 vs 225/40/18

I am considering going with 18s. Anybody have experience with a TSX and 225/45/18? I know it is slightly larger than stock size but I think it might improve the side profile of the car by filling in the gap between the car and the wheel more. Would I still be able to lower the car? Thanks.

235/40/18 is a better match to the OEM size. You should look for a 7.5" or 8" wide rim with at least a 45mm offset.

Doesn't a 235 require an 8" rim?

no, many people have 235 on a 7.5" wide rim. And you won't be able to find 225/45/18 in many wheels at all, you're only reason choices are 225/40 or 235/40

Thanks. Now I just have to find a rim I like with the appropriate offset. What are you opinions on these wheels:

Enkei ZR1 (40mm offset)
Ace Manta - Hyper Black Paltinum (42 or 48 mm offset)
Falken Torque 5 - Silver or Gunmetal (35mm offset - will it fit?)
G-racing Siegen - Silver (?? offset)
G-racing Saporro - Hyper Black (?? offset)

We have a million threads on offsets. As I mentioned before, try to find something that is at least 45mm. People have gone as low as 42 but you're on your own at that point. Keep in mind that stock is 55mm.

If you prefer the 45 series profile on an 18" rim, TireRack says that 215/45/18 works on the TSX. That's the setup that I am going to go with when I go Plus One.

Why not go a little wider?

My guess would be if they're more interested in the look than the performance gain.

42mm is perfect for an 18x7.5.

I think because a 225/45/18 is next to impossible to find. Not many companies make them, although the 215/45/18 does exist.
