18in Wheels Affect performance?

I've been debating whether or not to go ahead and get the 18in wheels or just stick with the stock wheel size. New wheels and tires just cost too much, and my friend said that bigger wheels will cause slower pickup off the line (I don't know how accurate that statement is).

Does anyone know the wheel size for the tsx just incase I want to keep the tires and just sellthe stock rims, or should I even keep the stock tires at all?

it depends on whether the wheels are spinners and if they are chrome. if the answer to both those things are yes than you are gonna have one fast TSX son.

Yes, spinners store kinetic energy so if you want to get a good 0-60 time you've got to go out on the highway first to get them up to speed. Then when you stop at a stoplight and gun it, the spinners will kick in to give you an added boost. Chrome makes the wheels smoother so it will cut through the air better.

hilarious!

but seriously, you may lose some performance with larger rims. If you search, there are some good discussions on this. The main thing for acceleration (and braking) is overcoming inertia. Wheel weight is very important in this. For 18" rims, there is more metal, so they weigh more than a similar 17" rim, thus worse acceleration.

The stock 17" rims are 21lb, my 18" SSR rims are 15lb, so it is possible to get larger rims that are also lighter. Weight isn't the only factor, but if you want larger wheels, make sure you get light ones.

Its unlikely the difference in weight will blow you away though. The stock rim is 17x7 +55, however you will not find any aftermarket rims in that size and offset. Search for what will fit.

Tire will be lighter too if bigger wheels. (same width, same overall diameter.)

Not necessarily SAZABI. There's a lot of extra reinforcements that need to be added to low profile tires so that they maintain their shape.

Yes, I was informed by tirerack on my second tire order (went with Kumho Ku19's on their recommendation) that they recommended reinforced sidewalls for 18's.

Hey check it out on I MOD's SSM TSX with 18" SSR GT1 wheel, they are only 17.5 lbs per wheel. It is very light weight than stock with about 21 to 23lbs. I will purchase GT1 soon. Go ahead and purchase on 18 inch with lightweight wheel, bro.
