1-Piece? 2-Piece? 3-Piece? What's it all mean?

So, what's the difference between a rim that's 1-piece, 2-piece, or 3-piece and what are the benefits associated?
I gots no clue and am curious why wheels that are almost same style that are 2-piece instead of 1-piece are much more expensive.

I think 3 piece is the best for offset adjustments. 1 piece is not and the more pieces the higher the price.
