Just curious, does anyone here drive racing sims on their computers? And if I may ask, how old are you?

I'm 32 and drive F1-2002 and and F1 Challenge 99-02 four or five nights a week. Of course, that may have something to do with why I'm single.

 

I have them all but I haven't played much recently. I go manic with them every now and then and I'll be playing round the clock.

The best sim going is Live For Speed. It has the best physics I have ever seen in a computer game and the online competitions are pretty intense.

 

The upcoming Gran Turismo 4 for the PlayStation 2 looks like it's going to be great. I don't even own a PS2 and I'd consider getting one just for the game. I'll see when it hits the street.

I've never played any of these racing sims but you;ve got me curious. Can they be very realistic? WIll I need anything else (steering wheel, etc) to really enjoy the game?

 

Great. I won't see my husband for at least a week when it comes out. :o We must have all three GTs so far...

 

The realism factor can vary but several of the "upper echelon" sims feel quite realistic. Of course, very few of us have ever driven a real race car so it's hard to say for sure. You will definitely need a wheel to have any sort of success at any of these sims. There are a number of good sites in the sim community but a good place to start is Race Sim Central

 

thats why i bought the PS2 a few years back when GT3 came out...of all the PS2 games I've had I spent the most time on GT3, have about 2 dozen+ cars in my garage

 

I downloaded that live for speed demo. Its pretty cool but I find it hard since the wheel doesnt center itself (i'm using the mouse to steer). I tried some online races but everyone was just smashing into me. .. like a smash up derby.

 

I think i got you beat buddy. Ive got at least 40 some cars now and I've got a couple more endurance races and im done with the game. Cant wait for the 4th one to come out!!

 

I have a few racing games on my PC (The NFS Series games) and the racing wheel. But I just hav'nt found the time to play them often if at all. Most of my time spent on the PC is usually spent here

 

You guys are slow. :P (j/k) I finished my GT3 long time ago, 100% complete and I don't even know how many cars I have now. Even though I finished the game, I still play it sometimes to explore how different adjustments will affect the car. IMO, it's the best racing sim I've played. If they can add more famous race tracks like Suzuka, Japan; Sugo, Japan; Silverstone, England; etc.... that'll be nice. I can't wait till the GT4 comes out.

 

BTW, I'm 28. If Sony introduces the Sony PSX or PS3(X) I will get that and GT4.

I owned an XBOX for a week and had a good time with Project Gotham. Then, a serious case of buyer's remorse set in and I took the console back. I'm not a big gamer, so I'd prefer games to be available for the PC. Give me Madden football and a good race sim and that's all I need.

 

hey Vtec, are you driving around in a new TL? I saw a black one on the road today in Old Town... maybe it was you. I took a look at them at the dealership and I'm very tempted to trade in my TSX.

Nah, wasn't me. Wish it was though. I opted for a 6MT. My patience with Honda is wearing VERY thin!
