Nascar

Well boys, I've seen F1 twice in Barcelona, Indy and Historic F1 in Long Beach,
and in Oct when I'm in the states I've booked tickets to see the EA Sports 500 in Talladega ! wooohoo !

any tips from you Nascar fans ?

I've picked tickets on the moss-thornton grandstand next to start finish straight.

pics from other events http://www.gear-review.co.uk/f1/

If you see them start turning right you know they're in trouble.

Besides that, prepare a good budget for beer and all sorts of junk.

I am a huge NASCAR fan!!! I am so jealous, that is the one track I got to see a race at.

Make sure you drink some water after every 5 beers or so. It gets hot out in the stands in the sun for 4-5 hours. Also, make sure, if you can, go through "trailer park land" for an experience. Talladega is huge so the farther up you are, the better view of the track. Bring binoculars if you want to see the whole track. Other than that, have a great time and take some pics.

I must say that Nascar and IRL never really excited me. I find the left turn only thing kinda boring. CART was always fun because they ran road coarses along with the ovals. For me, sports car racing is the purest form currently.

I like almost any type of auto racing from drag racing to NASCAR. But remember, NASCAR does race on two road course tracks.

And those are the 2 interesting races of the season for me. Especially when you see Ron Fellows hopping in and giving it to the likes of them all.

hahaha everytime I hear that name I think "IM BRIAN FELLOWS!" Cracks me up.

And by the way, Ron hasnt been in one race this year. And besides, the guys that come in to drive road courses get spanked most of the time anyway. Boris Said came in 6th at Sonoma...

actually..if you want exciting oval racing...Try any one of the bristol races...(especially the night one). Lots of banging and grinding...all on a half mile oval. But I guess you have to buy tickets a couple years ahead of time

And one of them is this weekend at Watkins Glen. Look for Gordon (either one) to be at the head of the pack.

That is another race I have to go see, especially under the lights.

Bristol = Toilet Bowl Track.

No offense, but I dislike both of them. I am sure that they will be at the front most of the day, if they even race with the weather situation. I am hoping that Junior will have a decent finish, like a top 10, and no flash backs of Infineon Raceway.

Its all good. At least you respect NASCAR for what it is (racing) unlike some people who just have such a stereotypical mind set of it.

...I have a stereotypical mindset against it

-> NASCAR

I would like to see NASCAR what it was back it the day...cars closely based on factory cars that you could buy. Now the cars all share similar chassis, simply with different bodywork that somewhat resembles that of the manufacturers' production cars. The negative side effects of this are obvious: US manufacturers produce few cars with any kind of performance consideration. Instead, we are given boring FWD sedans. Just look at what Europe and Japan are producing through influence of touring car race series (DTM, JGTC, etc). Are they afraid of technology? I can see the purpose of limiting traction control, ABS, etc. to enhance the necessity for driver skill, but they still run carbeurated v8s. Get with the program; why not swtich to Fuel Injection? Technology can transfer over to "our" world which is part of what makes racing exciting and interesting (the spectacular crashes shouldn't be the only thing you watch it for). Really, if someone can give me a legit reason that NASCAR is influential, important, or even entertaining to watch, I really will be open (really).

I love the fact that Toyota is in the NASCAR Truck Series. I hope they will make it to the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series and change a few things.

NASCAR, to me, is nothing but a sporting event like WWF, complete with the external and very unneccesary drama (though I certainly don't believe that the results are "staged"). Going in a circle is boring, too. So there.

i duno..but going in circles seem boring to me...I'm sure those drivers are incredible...hell I wouldn't have teh guts to go 180mph but I just prefer touring cars such as the jgtc/american le man/speedvision GT series....hopefully road racing will take off here so people will start going to track events and find out what they're missing in life =)

Even if the cars are more closely based on the production cars, I still think NASCRAP.....oops, I mean NASCAR is boring just because they are only going around a circle making only left turns. I agree that the Infineon and Watkins Glen are the only 2 interesting NASCRAP......oops, here I go again, I mean NASCAR races. However, I'm still not quite thrilled about these 2 races.

I love the fact that Toyota is in the NASCAR Truck Series.
IMO, I think Toyota made a big mistake entering into NASCAR Truck Series. Why spend all that money into developing "old" technology engines? And the fact is that Toyota doesn't even have a single push-rod engine in their production car lineup. So why spend the money into developing something that Toyota would NOT use in their lineup? Just doesn't make sense to me.

So I guess I'm one of those people who has a stereotypical mindset against NASCAR (also drag racing).

Left turn only circle racing = boring
Straight line racing = boring
Road course (consists of both left and right turns AND straight) = fun :gheywave:

Have you noticed this site has a dedicated PW thread each Friday so members can inflate their numbers?
Seriously, I was just joking and inflating my own numbers with useless posts such as this one.

DEI99662, don't worry about it, biker has his own unique way of PWing. It's rather innovative, given that he mostly posts at hours where no one is there to PW along with him.

It's kinda funny how there's always a good hour of moderating tasks to do in these forums when we reach this time of night/morning. And ... I mean... you need company, don't you?

And I gotta say I'm in a good shape this morning, compared to yesterday, I couldn't seem to find much to reply about.
