I raced a Lotus Esprit tonight....

....and had my ass handed to me!

Actually it wasn't even a race really, I just wanted to hear his engine.

I pulled up next to him at a stoplight and both of us had our windows down. I said what a nice car he had and that they are pretty rare. He commented on the TSX saying that he really liked them when he saw it at the car show. So I said, lets hear that V8 and he said let's race. We both laughed and when the light turned green we both went at it until about 3rd gear.

He was so gone it wasn't even funny but man that engine sounded sweet. It sounds a lot like a Ferrari V8.

Just thought I'd share...

I really like the Lotus, but can't afford it. I'd like one someday to race.

Nice!

I saw a Ferrari weaving in and out of traffic yesterday. It looked so fun!

Why is it that only men have such expensive cars? I never see a woman driving a $100K car...

Because most men who own exotics are trying to make up for something. Most of them are real enthusiasts, just rich guys trying to get a little ass.

I was actually thinking it's because the women would WRECK the nice cars. I honestly don't think that 99.9% of women out there would appreciate a ferrari for what it is. Then again I might just have a scewed view from driving in California for a while. All I see are women talking on their cell phones with big ol dents in the front and back of their SUV's (from trying to park and talk on their phones at the same time). Most of the time they'll cut you off and not even notice it. Yet still they'll just wander into your lane and then procede to swerve back and forth for a bit. Other times they'll be going way under the speed limit because they're either afraid to drive or otherwise occupied (read: PHONE). PUT THE PHONE DOWN.

uhh yeah sorry about the rant .. just got carried away

I thought this was a "I beat a Lotus last night" thread and it would be immediate bannage.

Then I saw the Lotus thread was started by Dan Martin. :wtf: was the first thing that came to mind. Surely Dan knew better.

Thank god he did. Dan, was it immediately obvious it was a V8 Lotus? Badges, sound etc?

It was easy to tell. You could hear the rumble from a block away and when I got closer I could see the V8 badge. I think he might have had an aftermarket exhaust on the car because it was pretty loud.

I do around here - but then again soccer moms drive RS6 Avants around here. And of course it not need to be a Ferrari to approach 100K around here.

Comedy... This is what people say when they know they will never be able to afford cars like this.

And you KNOW if you had that much cash you wouldnt be driving a TSX, no matter how great our car is, there are more expensive cars that perform better.

No, I know wealthy guys who are true enthusiasts and they have told me that most of the people they know who own exotics treat them as trailer queens. I have no reason not to believe them since I've known a lot of people who are like that. They bought the car because it makes them look more attractive than they really are.

Owning an exotic just to drive to the country club is so . If I had the $$$$$$ for an exotic, it would likely never see public roads.

I think the Porsche would kill that Lotus. I would be very disappointed if it didn't.

It gives me chills when I think how hard that thing launches.

For sure. The Porchse is capable of mid 12 sec 1/4 miles no? and sub 4 sec 0-60. The Lotus is probly somewhere in the low 13's and low 4's.

The lotus V8 Turbo (which I think is what I ran against yesterday) can do 0-60 in 4.4 and the quarter in 12.8.

I haven't seen any specs on the 911 TT X51 but I think your numbers are close. I guess it's a drivers race but I have to believe the AWD of the 911 would give a more consistant launch than the RWD Lotus.

I think trailer queens means that you tow it from show to show or you just park it in your garage and have people over to look at it. Trailering it to a race track where you can actually use the car for what it was designed for is a different story.

The sound of a true supercar is just lovely. I will never forget the 360 at WOT going through the city in 1st gear off the lights. The beutifuuuuul high-pitched wail just reverberated off the buildings!
